Meander Through Marylebone, London New Year's meet up.

Traditionally we arrange a meet up in London in the period between Christmas and New Year when the Christmas dinner bloat has subsided, the presents are well and truly fondled and She Who Must Be Obeyed is looking dangerously like expecting those shelves to be put up or the garage to be cleaned out.

I propose a meander through Marylebone depending on how kind the weather will be and if it isn't too kind spend some time under cover. We'll meet initially at Patisserie Valerie near Marble Arch tube station for a warming coffee and nibbles and everyone to find us, then find the remaining marker for the Tyburn Tree from which London's criminals were hanged, spend some time in the Wallace Collection, wander through Grotto Passage with its Dickensian feel and then find some further refreshments depending on time, tide and what we feel like. (Okay, I lied about the tide, we'll ignore that.)

Patisserie Valerie is at the corner of Bryanston Street and Great Cumberland Place and is about 2 minutes stroll from Marble Arch tube station. Oxford Street is likely to be very busy thanks to the January sales so this cafe is a little off the beaten track, they're happy to accommodate us and they seem very pleasant.

The Tyburn Tree was at the corner of Edgware Road and Bayswater Road. The Wallace Collection was gifted to the nation by the Marquess of Hertford and contains original works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Van Dyke, Caravaggio, Titian, Canaletto, and Gainsborough to name but a few. It also houses some wonderful porcelain and other interesting artifacts. Entry is free, it's generally not crowded and - best of all perhaps - non-flash photography is welcomed.

What date? Saturday 28th December

What time? The days are short so 10.30 am

Where? Patisserie Valerie cnr Bryanston Street and Great Cumberland Sausage Place.

I would be grateful if you'd reply to this thread in the affirmative if you're intending to attend so that I can get an idea of numbers.:) Please PM me if you'd like to swap phone numbers if you don't already have mine.

Hi Pete,

I was only thinking the other day if there would be an Xmas meet!

Unfortunately I can't say for sure that I can attend as I'm away for Christmas but due home on the Friday or Saturday, and I have a rugby match on Saturday afternoon.

If I'm home Friday then I can join the meet for the morning so please put me down as a maybe.

Christmas/New Year week is already fully booked so I'm going to

have to be a no, Pete.

Now I know this is a regular event I shall remember to contact you

to see what is planned next year and try to work it into our plans.

I hope you all have a good time!

Thanks, Gibbo. If I recall we were with you and Jaap in Bristol at that time last year.:)

Pete, Count me in. I practically live in P.Valerie, especially the one nextdoor to R.G.Lewis, so will be a home from home. They are purveyors of cappuccinos to at least one Leica dealer.

Hi Pete

Thanks for this. Count me in!

The 28th or 29th Dec have long been traditional dates for me to wander the London streets (solo) with a camera. So much better this year to do it in good company!

Best wishes

John

Great idea, Pete. Good selection of venue.

Sadly, although it is a rare free Saturday for me I have already been booked by family. I'm not having much luck getting to our get-togethers at the moment. Next time, I hope.

Hope you all have fun.

Happy and Blessed Christmas and New Year to all.

Tim

Hi Pete, great idea. Eileen and I should be okay to attend and will confirm before the end of the week.

Cheers, Tom

Hi Pete, the Boss has made a decision and I can now confirm that unless anything unforeseen happens we will be there. Will have to check on train times from Huntingdon to make sure we can be there by 10:30am.

I guess whilst we'll be in the big smokey I may as well look for some theatre tickets for the evening.

Cheers, Tom
