Nick De Marco Posted February 20, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Surely it's time for a London Leica meet As the days get longer and brighter and Spring is threatening to come I have heard on the Leica grapevine there have been mumerings of a trip to the Shard Sounds like an excellent idea to me. I'd love to go up it and shoot And that whole area round London Bridge has been scrubbed up good and has got lots of photographic possibilities with good options for the obligatory food/drink after So how about it, late March, before Easter... who's in? spylaw4 Posted February 21, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 21, 2013 After Easter - I'm in Vietnam from mid-March onwards. Bear in mind that it's £24.95 timed entry with no refund if the weather's lousy.
Nick De Marco Posted February 21, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted February 21, 2013 I didn't mean during, but before Easter (I will be in Italy for Easter weekend) Was going to propose weekend if 16 March but if people prefer after Easter we could do April and maybe someone will bring their Leica M

earleygallery Posted February 21, 2013 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2013 Depending on the actual date I'll be in. I sometimes get vertigo, so my trip up the Shard might be a very brief one!
valerio Posted February 21, 2013 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2013 Depending on the dates, I should be able to come to this meet. Valerio
earleygallery Posted February 21, 2013 Share #10 Posted February 21, 2013 For refreshments in the London Bridge area, my favourite place is the Southwark Tavern at Borough Market. They have a great range of ales/lagers and when I have eaten there the food has been excellent. The only problem is that lots of other people really like it too, so it's usually very busy. MPerson Posted February 21, 2013 Share #11 Posted February 21, 2013 I might drag my arse off the beach for this. There's also 'The Barrow Boy and Banker' (6-8 Borough High St, SE1 9QQ) which we used on a previous Christmas meet. Easy to find for those using London Bridge tube. Tim B Posted February 21, 2013 Share #12 Posted February 21, 2013 Yes, it is certainly time we had a meet. I may be available if we avoid Sundays, but I'm pretty fully committed until after at least 12th April. And I would love to go up the Shard, but refuse to pay the exorbitant fee especially given the booking conditions - no doubt my loss ! But I'll wait and see what we all come up with. roydonian Posted February 21, 2013 Share #13 Posted February 21, 2013 And I would love to go up the Shard, but refuse to pay the exorbitant fee especially given the booking conditions - no doubt my loss My own feelings precisely. But I'll be happy to come along (schedule permitting) for any pre-Shard photography, and post-Shard pubbery. Best regards, Doug

Nick De Marco Posted February 21, 2013 Author Share #15 Posted February 21, 2013 I have vertigo too, but not so bad when there is glass there. My own vertigo takes the form of feeling like a giant magnet is pulling me like a force of gravity to go over the edge - it doesn't have the same effect where there is glass there (ie make me feel as if I am going to involuntarily jump through glass). It would nevertheless be an interesting diversion to take some portraits of the rampant fear etched upon the faces of our more vertiginous members. Getting back to the point, it appears as if there may be a consensus for such a trip, with adequate street level boozing, sometime in mid-to late April and on a Saturday. Shall we try and agree a date?
gabriel Posted February 21, 2013 Share #16 Posted February 21, 2013 How about the George Inn 77 Boro High Street. National Trust 400 year old pub.
spylaw4 Posted February 22, 2013 Share #17 Posted February 22, 2013 I'll suggest the 20th as a starter? Haven't yet looked to see what the Shard bookings are like for that date.
Susie Posted February 22, 2013 Share #18 Posted February 22, 2013 Hi Guys, Nothing in my diary yet, so I'll pencil this in. The 20th is good for me. Susie
