Lovely photo opp. Maybe some of us could meet up? I would suggest at the paddock entrance, Sunday 2nd Sept. around 11.00 The races start at 0.900, but Zandvoort is a bit of a drive for me, and it is Sunday, after all...

Zandvoort !!! Was a legendary circuit in my youth (almost as Assen for bikes)... I remember well a pair of victories of J.Ickx on F1 Ferrari (end 60s-70) ... and Alfa, in its private test circuit in Italy, even reproduced a sequence of its turns : I remember that the 1st turn after start was named "Tarzan curve".... I wondered why they named it like this... do someone of you Dutch know the reason of this name ?

The Tarzan bocht got its name because the asphalt machine which was used was called Tarzan. It was a hefty piece of kit, and needed to get the asphalt flat enough.

But there is also a rumour that one of the heavy bodied owners of the small vegetable gardens which were there once, made a big fuzz and finally gave in if the curve was called after his nickname, Tarzan.

My favourite memory is June 1967 , Lotus 49 brand new / Cosworth V8 brand new and driven by Jim Clerk. Winner first time out. Up untill that time I am sure that only Mercedes had managed to win first time out with new car/ engine.

Not forgetting designed by my personal hero Colin Chapman. And non of this "it was a ford engine". Ford funded the development of first the FVA engine and then the DFV by Keith Duckworth of Cosworth Engineering.

Found this thread rather accidentially, went there this year - really a great event and lots of opportunities to take photos.
