Can't book that early yet but the date fits in nicely between two events so I'll count myself in.

I use Skyscanner, just to compare, and I have started to use TripIt to organise stuff, which is brilliant.

Hi all,
Can someone tell me a few things: What is this challenge about; How many people usually join the challenge; Are there any rules; Is it individual or groupwise; Regards, Paul

Here's a link to the arrangements for the Venice Challenge we had last year.
http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-...ments-etc.html We all meet, use One camera, One lens (no zooms), One roll of film (or 36 digital exposures), have Two hours to take One best shot, which then gets voted upon by the Forum membership at large. There is a €10 entry fee, which this year was donated to the same charity as the Forum Charity Book. There are usually a couple of dozen members there, depending upon where it is held. Copenhagen might be one of the more popular destinations. There were 12 of us at the first one in London and over 40 in Berlin So far, we have been to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Krakow, Valletta, Venice and Palermo.

Paul,
Please see the first post in this thread, which sets out the rules for the 2011 Palermo One Challenge. The One Challenge is a light-hearted challenge run on trust where entrants meet at a chosen location and each entrant is allowed to use one camera, one lens, one film (or one ISO setting for digital) to expose up to 36 shots within a 2-hour time period (it was originally a 1-hour time period but it was too restrictive). It has always been a social event and very enjoyable and over the past few Challenges numbers have been around 30 including wives, partners and other "family support crew". Pete. I thought zooms were allowed provided they were used at a pre-agreed single focal length?
It's a social thing too, a chance to meet other forum members and handle a wide range of equipment. |

Zooms have been allowed from the outset - at the first Challenge in London I used an LC-1 @50mm

Yes, but you're not allowed to zoom it.

What generally happens is that we meet at about noon, for coffee and a cake or a beer and a panini, or whatever, then the two hours starts at around 14:00
Then, afterwards, you can rejoin the other members at the coffee shop or go on your way. We now try to have a communal meal in the evening too. You tend to find that people bump into each other over the weekend. The whole thing is as much about the social aspect as it is about the taking of photos.

This is quite flexible, we meet in a café, have a chat, start the two hours, where everyone is on his own, and this is all, in principle. Most of us meet again in the café after the competition, but this is up to everyone. In the evening, there is a dinner, which is optional as well.
As you see, the whole event is most flexible. Even the required parts are not checked by anyone, since one is spoiling one's own fun, when not sticking to the rules. Edit - sorry Steve and Andy, crossed posts Stefan Last edited by StS; 18/12/11 at 22:59. Reason: see above |
