You guys are in for a REAL treat on Tuesday.
We went to the IWMN this morning and I have to say that the exhibition is one of the very best photography exhibitions I have ever been to. It shows the full history of Don's career, right from his growing up with the gangs of East London, through all the wars, to a beautiful landscape from 2009 Most of the prints were made by him, too, which surprised me. This is a man who really knows his stuff. I bought a couple of his books, and look forward to settling down with one of them this evening. This is an exhibition worth making a special trip to Manchester for, wherever you are in the country.

Will have a go – waiting on a delivery though so it may be a no-show.
Fancy the exhibition, saw the one at Bradford.

Dave, hope you can make it. I saw the exhibition in Bradford, also saw one in Paris in 2002 or 2003. Both were impressive. For anyone who can make it and has an interest in his work it's one not to miss - even if you can't get there on Tuesday.

Andy, I don't think so, that was called "My England" and was of photographs taken in England. Even if it was the same one it would be worth seeing again.

I popped in to see this today - I'll still be going tomorrow - and as Andy says it's excellent.
The only reservation I'd have would be that some of the photographs are rather poorly lit, but the content is fantastic all the way through. Admission to everything in the museum is free, as is a pass to take photographs - though photography isn't allowed in the McCullin show. The museum car park is pay and display with a flat rate of £4 - as mentioned earlier I parked across the canal in the Lowry multi storey, and it cost me nothing more than the price of a coffee. See you tomorrow.

Got to Agree with Andy. I took the kids with me on Sunday and the exhibition was fantastic. I couldn't spend as long as I wanted, as my kids are quite young and it wasn't really suitable (though most of the images weren't that graphic). Brilliantly inspiring stuff and excellently presented. Got to fire off a few shots too, so win/win.
Andy - you weren't hulking a massive DSLR and a couple of wee girls, were you?? |

A good day was had by all – and a couple of new faces to boot (I think that's what it says here).
Even took a few photos – not on my Leica though, so if you want to see my contribution, the blog's over here: dunniphoto (Ta for the lift home Rolo).

Yep, a worthwhile visit and can see the need to go back for a second look.
It was a surprisingly good turn out. Almost a full team (in the cafe), plus a parting shot: ![]() Last edited by Rolo; 09.02.2010 at 19:02. |

A good day indeed - and Mrs Dave's snacks were up to the usual standard!
The McCullin audio visual thing I mentioned is here... BBC News - Today - Audio slideshow: 'Shaped by War' Here are two of the attendees... L1014006-salford.jpg
