When I first posted about the meeting, Christoph_d offered to help find us a venue to meet.

We don't need a room, or anything fancy, just a decent cafe/bar where we can meet and have some lunch before the Challenge.

We also need to suss-out somewhere to have a meal in the evening on the Saturday for those that are choosing to stay over.

Nearer the time, I will call for numbers, so that a suitable place can be found. Any help that Berlin folk care to offer in this regard would be most welcome!

And a couple of drinks afterwards - some of us (ok, at least one of us) are looking forward to some good German beer! ;-)

One of the interesting themes has been the rise of digital. One the first challenge three years ago I think Bill was the only person shooting digitally. Last year film was in the minority. It'll be interesting to see what the ratio is this year.

Off to Munich on business this week (or some small town out near Austria), so I will have to see what has been arranged for the evening entertainment, beer wise. Not sure if they know how to do it properly down there...

I have already made a pledge to Ron about choice of camera.

Enjoy the trip. A couple of years ago I stopped off at a small town called Kempton west of Munich while driving to Austria. Excellent beer, excellent pork knuckle - only to be eaten if you're _very_ hungry :-)

Frankly, I'd have to be nearly starved to death before I'd eat pork knuckle

Andy, it's far better than it sounds. Think of lots of juicy succulent pork with excellent crackling.

Oddly enough it was the beer at 3 € a half litre that caught _my_ eye ;-)

Map of the location here...

Mappy - Stadtpläne

You can zoom out to see it in context.

Yes, it‘s a nice place at a good location.... the pratergarten has a small stage for the one-challenge award ceremony....

next door there is my favorite "Imbiss"
Street Food With Ambition in Berlin - New York Times

and ex-chancellor Schröders favorite Curry-Wurst (Konnopkes) is just around the corner as well...

Have we possibly found our starting point for the Saturday? Since I don't know Berlin at all I don't know if there's much to shoot within walking distance.

I had the most delicious lunch in Krakow last year, I think the restaurant was called Cherubino. Pork Knuckle - seriously. It was superb.

I have to support James' view on the pork knuckle. I go to an old boy's reunion once a year at the local German Club. I always have pork knuckle. They actually have a different name for it, but I never get that part right.

Andy, trust me, you would love it,.... unless you are Jewish.

I might be, but I prefer to keep my ideology strictly between myself and my local Vicar, Priest, Rabbi and Imam I might even be vegetarian...

I didn't say it was disgusting, I just said that I didn't want to eat it! No big deal.

I don't want to eat cockles or winkles or eels. Or sardines. I don't want to eat witchety grubs, or locusts on a stick. Doesn't mean to say that they are disgusting

In Germany we have a saying:

Oddly enough I had some eel a couple of days ago, and very nice it was too :-)

Seriously pork knuckle - despite what it sounds like - is just a pork joint with a bone in the middle (which is one of the things needed for it to be a joint I suppose).
