mojobebop Posted December 15, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted December 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Passed on what turned out to be a 'miscatorgorized m5', (said 'E', turned out to be below average). Â Getting a user m4 instead. missing about an inch of vulcanite. Â Wondering if there is a easy fix for this, rather then sending the camera to get the entire covering removed. enboe Posted December 15, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted December 15, 2008 From what I have read, original vulkanite was applied to a heated camera body before assembly, back in the old days. That makes the process difficult to reproduce. Â A few options: Â Cameraleather.com is an acknowledged source of fine leathers, and also offer an installation service. Â Leica themselves may be able to recover an older M through their a-la-carte service. Contact them to see if it is available for your model. Â A fine half-case from Luigi (leicatime.com) or others would cover the blemish and add utility as well. Â And then there's my choice on user bodies - simply use them. I have a chip on my M3 that hasn't impacted a single photograph. It seems the older and more beat up, the more accepted it is in today's photography-paranoid environment. Â So, my advice, go enjoy some new Ektar or old Kodachrome and don't worry about the vulkanite. Â Eric

Langerbernd Posted January 29, 2009 Share #5 Â Posted January 29, 2009 Hi, I did the vulcanite removal by myself; I used the desciption of `cameraleather.com` and the material they told me! I also ordered the new coverage there! It was a very nice work and the covering of the new leather was in my opinion very easy, so my chrom M4 looks now so well! Try it and you will get a quite new feeling for your camera!!!!
