B+W multi-resistant coated (MRC) filters. If you live in the US, you will find B&H are well stocked with very competitive prices.

I thought B&W made Leicas filters? Probably dont I might be confused. Pretty expensive, I sometiems reckon it is worth picking up a whole range of el cheapo filters, experimenting, then buying B&W of the ones you really use.

To be pedantic, its B+W. Put B&W into Google and you'll get a whole slew of other stuff. B+W is part of Schneider Optische. I believe it's Schneider who supply Leica with the glass for their filters. Single coated of course. Yes B+W MRC filters are expensive but they are multi-coated and scratch resistant. The best.

I use Heliopan

Red 25A to capture clouds and put storm in the sky.
Green 13 I don't use much but good for foliage.
Yellow 8 Good for portraiture, creamy skin and beautiful eyes. Also adds contrast to Delta 400.

It cost a little more than B+W but it's among the best you can find.
Same color number will apply to any brand of filter.

A B+W MRC yellow filter was used most of the time when I was shooting b&w. Occasionally orange, very occasionally red. Red does odd things to caucasian skin tones - everone looks like a goth, with white skin.

Default let me put a word in for Heliopan

though I have never used their red or green filters
they do make fine filters, which use Schott glass & outstanding coatings
I find them as well built, if not better, than the B&W and I think their coatings do better with flare/ghost suppression than any other that I have used
mind you by & large I use ir/cut filters and polarizers so
YMMV

I will recomend an Infrared Filter since you're going to the two magnificent canyons.
I heard a lot of sad stories of photo bugs "falling" on both canyons. Indeed beautiful "but be careful" if you encounter an irresitable challenging shot.

On topic..ish. What are peoples opinions of the best UV filter?
Mountains, M, so polariser is kind of a non starter.
Admittedly I woudlnt have thought of visiting Heliopan. Thanks.

On polariser for Rangefinder camera, I can only recomend Leica.
That way you can preview to your finder then fold it to your lens.
"It's not cheap", but it also work for my Rolleiflex TLR with a Bay III-55mm adapter ring.
I only use polariser on slides and C41.

Let me add this Rob. If you want a good UV and short on budget, Hoya is not bad.
But their best MRC is almost the same price as B+W.
eBay has tons of good deals.

For me it is B+W MRC as posted above. I know Heliopan have a very good reputation but I am biased against them because their distributor in the US is an absolutely horrible company. Heliopan is quality; they use brass rings like B+W and excellent glass from Schott. They also make a broad range of high quality hoods as do B+W.

Stocks of Heliopan can sometimes be difficult to find. I use both Heliopan and B&W and they are both top quality with nothing to choose between them. Can't go wrong either way.
