Default R5 - a little help, please!

I have an R5 body, inherited from my Dad about a year ago. I haven't used it a lot - but it seems in good shape. Dad took good care of it and it's been stored in good conditions. It's worked fine the 3-4 times I've used it so far

I took it out on Sunday to start getting more familiar with it. For the first time ever, it started giving me problems.

With a lens mounted - any Leica lens - the mirror sticks when in the "up" position after triggering the shutter. The mirror stays stuck in the "up" position until the lens is removed.

I've tried all of my lenses (7) and it happens with them all. I don't have this problem when using these lenses on my SL2.

When I fire the shutter with no lens mounted, the problem with the mirror does not occur - it only occurs when a lens is mounted - and it occurs every time I fire the shutter.

Anybody ever seen this problem before? Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

If the lens cap is on and it is in auto mode, then it may be trying to get enough light for a proper exposure. Try putting it in manual mode and then see what happens. I had this happen once on a R4s, and it was "fixed" when I put it in manual mode.
Good luck.

sender - that does the trick - duh - thanks so much.

As I said, I'm still getting used to this camera body.

God, I love this forum.

Glad I could help; I have an SL2 also, and actually enjoy using it more than the R.
