Ive recently been disapointed with the flare using this lens. When taking almost any picture towards the light even when the light is completely off frame in a position that you think would not be a problem it manifests itself. Bright over cast days as well.
In addition the flare is very intrusive usualy as a large diffuse bright area. Im not useing a lens hood and not sure how much this would help and not sure which lens hood would fit. Can anyone give me an indication if the Voigtlander 35 1.4 or 1.2 give the same problem. Also which 35 Leica lenses are worse for this. Its so bad im going to have to invest in a differant lens at some point soon with lens hood. |

Sounds like your lens is off as I've never heard that this was a problem with the 1.7.
I have the 1.2 and it is outstanding in it's behavior. I never use the hood and have not seen flare in any shot, no matter how crazy the light. The 1.4 has received some criticism for it's propensity to flare. Best wishes Dan |

Thanks for reply.
Ive since found 2 mentions of the 35 1.7 exhibiting large white out flare when shooting into the sun. Ive also found links saying the 35 1.2 is quite resistant too flare. so i guess there is my answer. Thanks again |

I also do have the Utron 35mm F1.7, but I've never noticed any flare on the fine pictures it renders. It's a very sharp, contrasty lens of first class performance. There are two excellent shades for the lens, besides the one with wich the lens is delivered.
My first choice is the old Leitz 12585 shade made from 1963 until 1980 or so. Much to my surprise it's clamping device fits the Ultron perfectly.Lens/shade combination looks great. My second choice is the Voigtländer LH2. A beautiful finished shade of great design. Erik. |
