I have an M6 classic which is ttl but not ttl flash which is the only difference really between an M6 and an M6ttl. I don't require ttl flash and the M6 is a very well priced user camera at present. Re an M7, the M7 has aperture priority doesn't it?. Why would you want that?. The M6 has a superb metering system. My take would be go for an M6 and put the money you have saved into Leica optics. After all optic are the holy grail of Leica- Summicron 35mm asph and Summicron 50mm

Never heard of an ironclad Leica before. Sound likes a battleship!
I think top-plate of original M6 was zinc, M7 went back to brass like M3,M2, M4. Brass is said to be smoother. Some prefer the way brass wears. In practical operating terms it makes little difference, at least that's what I've found. |

There is a fair bit of easy to read here Leica FAQ - Main Topic Index
It might help for most of the things you want to know. |

The M6TTL was my first Leica. Great camera. After a couple of years I bought an M7 and liked it a bit better, especially the AE. If you shoot slides I would say definitely get the M7 because of the stepless shutter speeds. Otherwise you might not notice the difference. I would say zinc/brass - no difference either. You want "safety mechanics"? Take a look at an MP. That's what I use now.

The M7 has AE. This is a must, IMO!

Hi Ned
!! I have the M6TTL, same size as the M7, but no AE. It's a price difference of ~ 600$ and if you have the money go for the M7. Otherwise, both allow you to take good photos. ![]() |

I have both and like them both for different reasons. One thing to check out is the M6 TTL viewfinder. I bought my M6 off of eBay (it was a great deal). I found out after the purchase the flaring problem with its original viewfinder and paid $265 to have an MP viewfinder put in.

I choose the M7,
Why. On top is the M7 set in M6 or MP metering mode (manual) Bottom image is the M7 in Auto metering. M6 and MP will not shoot AE but the M7 can do both. As for the Electronic shutters, the best cameras out there use it. Ken. PS.... I have owned the M7 for nearly 4 years, NO problems yet, metering is fantastic .........IMHO the M7 is the best M.
