I just complemented my new IIf purchase and 50/3,5 with a 35/3,5 Summaron (39mm thread).
Couldn't wait to try it out so shot a couple indoor of my son. Using TriX and HC110 as I often do I was pretty excited to see the neg's. In short I am very pleased with them, the look and feel of these old lenses is just excellent in my opinion.Great build as well. Ok the shot is nothing to write home about, but what I see is very smooth tones (trix), good sharpness even wide open (f3,5) and low enough contrast to allow post processing according to personal taste. What do you think? regards andy p.s sorry about the dust specks

Andy, if you took James' counsel, you're in good hands, indeed!
I like this look very much for the reasons you spell out. I think these lenses have a real utility with portraits and imagery that needs to be gentle on it's subjects. With Photoshop, one can always sharpen, add contrast, shadows, whatever to bring the feel "up" . I've debated selling my 2.8 35mm Summaron with goggles a dozen times, but can't bring myself to the brink. I still use it with certain ladies and objects that need to be handled with kindness. These lenses are also kind to us, in that they give a wide latitude of error in exposure and still leave you with something of interest to invest in. Snap on. |
