Today I´ve at last become a Leica owner.
After a brief affaire with a Panasonic LC1, I´ve won a Canon 30D in a photocontest and sold the PanaLeica. Been shooting with 30D for a couple of years, but now and then run a Kodak Portra through my Konica Hexar Af. Every time I picked up the print from the Hexar I´m happier with the results than with the digital prints from the 30D. They just look damn good. For a while I´ve wanted to get some Leica gear, sadly out of my financial reach. But this is my lucky day. Just picked up a mint condition Leica R4 (serial 1.6xx.xxx) with Summicron 35 + Elmarit 90 (Canada) for danish kr. 1000,- ( 200$). Only problem is that the plastic film view window is missing. I´ve been thinking about sending it to CLA, is it possible to get a new plastic window? Other than that the camera and lenses look almost as brand new, the camera even still have plastic film at the bottom plate. Greetings from a happy new Leica owner;o) Martin NOERGAARD FOTO Ps. Can anyone recomend an adaptor for using my new lenses on the Canon 30D? |

$200? You've got a bargain even if you have to throw the camera away.
I'd call a local dealer, they may be able to tell you how easy it is to have the window replaced.

The window just glues in. Styrene cement.
I would not bother. Cut some cardboard to fit tightly and add a few layer of black MMM waterproof tape, inside and out. Of more concern are the sponge or foam seals being dried and ineffective. That is a cheap fix and easy enough to do yourslf. I have done a few. |
