Fujifilm KIills Off Fujichrome Velvia 100F 120 Film

Bad news indeed. The salesperson in the lab I use, negatif+, was pretty gloomy the other day regarding Fuji's commitment to film. He spoke about the stop of Velvia (not sure which one) and said that the prices for retailers in France went through the roof. He bought for the first time from an intermediary rather than Fuji directly. A roll of Provia 100F in 135 is now 14,90  On the internet (Germany)found it for about 12,50 incl. shipment, at best...

Not good. I haven't stocked up yet on either Provia, Velvia 50 or Pro 400H (Adam just started a thread), but it might be about time.

It's never good to hear about a particular film being discontinued, but 100F is one emulsion I personally won't miss. Because of its really high contrast and kind of outlandish colors, it had pretty limited applications. And it was never a big seller compared to Velvia 100 according to the Fuji rep here. And I believe it was already discontinued in 35mm early this year(?)

Velvia 100 will still be available. A much tamer film than the 100F.

This is no surprise at all. The demise of Velvia 100F was announced by Fujifilm as early as February 2013. At that time, all formats of this film except 120 were axed. When the Fuji film line-up got a new box design, Velvia 100F was spared. It was therefore obvious for everyone following the market/industry that it was only a question of time (due probably to some bigger inventory in 120 size) until the death of the 120 size.

I'm not regretting Velvia 100F in particular (tried once in 6x4,5). I just got the feeling from the discussion at negatif+ that Fuji was less supportive to maintaining slide film as in the past. As if price policy was a way of fading out the use. If this is a wrong impression and clear evidence or statements exist for the contrary, all the better.

Don't worry - it's a film you would probably never have used.

I've actually shot quite a bit of 100F in 35mm, and also 100. I was initially a bit concerned, based on the pretty rough opinions on the internet about it, that 100F would be a terrible film but in use I haven't found it to be so bad actually (then again, I'm just a happy amateur so nobody's money is on the line, except mine).

Sure the colours look perhaps a tiny bit "muted" compared to 100 (which is a bit extreme in terms of saturation sometimes) but it is pretty easy to change in post (still it can be seen in the two sky images below). The first two are on 100F and the other two on 100 (2000dpi versions on Flickr for the grain peepers out there).
