Sending film negatives for scanning

Hi, im in a bit of a dilemma about scanning - I want to get them scanned but can't afford a scanner nor do I have the patience to do it via a digital cam. Scanning where I am is a rip-off (singapore). I have since found a shop in HK who can do it at a reasonable price. I have used them before when I was travelling and was happy with the results. To me, this represents the best alternative in terms of cost and ease.

So, my question is - is there any issue in sending film negatives via post? I understand that postage mail will be x-rayed, but as long as the film has been developed can I assume that it will be ok? I intend to process the film myself and simply send the negatives to be scanned.

Obviously theres risk of the stuff getting lost etc, but barring this, will scanning of the negatives have any adverse impact to the image quality?

Thanks

As far as I know, you are correct in assuming no risk from x-rays with developed negatives. For BW negatives, there are a number of good shops in NYC for scanning, I know MV Labs, and Color House. I would send them an email or call them directly and they can tell you for certain what the x-ray risks are or are not.
