poppers Posted June 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Can someone recommend me a lab or individual in the UK that could process and contact a couple of rolls of tri-x. Scanning would be a bonus too. I've used Ilford Lab in the past and wonder if there are alternatives which people have used themselves that i dont know about. Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hi poppers, Take a look here UK Lab recommendation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MattMaber Posted June 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted June 13, 2014 I use AG-Photo. Prices are reasonable though processing including scan has been about 2 weeks from dropping into post box to arriving back. 3000px wide as medium res.
poppers Posted June 13, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted June 13, 2014 (edited) thanks, I've used AG for colour work and i'm happy with them but never B&W. Perhaps i'll give them a try., Edited June 13, 2014 by poppers
MattMaber Posted June 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2014 Ive run a tri-x through them which was fine so far as I could tell. The B&W C41 they've done they even removed the colour cast, an easy thing I know but its small details which are nice.
honcho Posted June 13, 2014 Share #5 Posted June 13, 2014 Peak Imaging get all my Velvia processing. Black and white negative film I process myself.
MattMaber Posted June 13, 2014 Share #6 Posted June 13, 2014 AG-Photo is about half that price. Of course thats no reason not to use peak.
poppers Posted June 13, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted June 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) If opting for prints from Trix what are they like printed onto colour paper as opposed to ilfords prints onto mono paper? amro Posted June 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted June 14, 2014 I use Peak Imaging too. Not sure I shouldn't switch to someone else. They're ok but they're are more expensive.
Stealth3kpl Posted June 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted June 14, 2014 I've been happier with scans from Snaps than from Peak, and they're cheaper. I'm not using Peak again. Pete
jcraf Posted June 15, 2014 Share #10 Posted June 15, 2014 Peak have always been so-so, in my experience. Using their develop only service has often resulted in negatives with strings of white spots - I assume these are water marks, but I don't know enough about developing film to be sure. I now use Ag; as others have said, they are good but slow.
Stealth3kpl Posted June 15, 2014 Share #11 Posted June 15, 2014 I've also been happy with AG photographic. Pete
NJH Posted June 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted June 15, 2014 I've been happier with scans from Snaps than from Peak, and they're cheaper. I'm not using Peak again.Pete Snaps is my local lab and they do everything for me, up to 20 rolls now since going to film at Christmas, mixture of B&W and C-41. He uses ID-11 for all the B&W. They use a Noritsu scanner for 35mm but are apparently getting another scanner to speed up their workflow. OP here is a link to a shot from one of the large develop and scan jobs done for me by them, just as it came on the DVD with no 'extra' PP; https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/97808778/FilmScans/25880013.JPG Film is Fuji Acros shot with the Elmar-M 50 on my M7. The scan works out at about 29 MP (6774 x 4492 pixels). If you zoom straight into the window at the bottom of the building in the centre it looks like they have a clothes horse in the window.
andkeen Posted June 15, 2014 Share #13 Posted June 15, 2014 Very happy with Ag. Reasonable prices and worth the wait.

andybarton Posted June 16, 2014 Share #15 Posted June 16, 2014 I had two rolls of Portra developed only and thumbnails scanned to a CD by ASDA at Trafford Park today and it cost me a fiver, total. Including the small reference prints. The service was 1hr and was extremely good. Will use them again as I work my way through my remaining C41 stock

MattMaber Posted June 16, 2014 Share #17 Posted June 16, 2014 Asda is very low res though. At least in my local.
andybarton Posted June 16, 2014 Share #18 Posted June 16, 2014 About 2000 pixels on longest edge. I only want them for reference. Nothing else. Will scan the ones I want myself. No complaints for 50p
MattMaber Posted June 16, 2014 Share #19 Posted June 16, 2014 Mine from asda were less than 1000 I think. For 2000 I'd be tempted but then if we all went to asda it still wouldn't be worth there while at some point and meanwhile ag photo and their ilk would be gone.
andybarton Posted June 16, 2014 Share #20 Posted June 16, 2014 The CD came with both "hires" and "lowres" scans. It's true that getting films processed at ASDA might mean AG or Peak drop processing sooner, but they are convenient, cheap and offer good service. The same cannot be said of some mail-order processors. And it's impossible for any individual to keep the film photo processing industry alive on his or her own
