Advertisement Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Hi honcho, Take a look here A Year in Development. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
CalArts 99 Posted April 6, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2014 I couldn't help but notice some of the comments to that article: "And of course the images we are seeing here are digitised - this strikes me as similar to the belief in the superiority of analogue sound recording - most of us couldn't tell the difference anyway." And: "If the story hadn't told us, would anyone have been able to tell that these pictures were shot on film?" Those responding in such a manner failed to understand that this is an article on an actual exhibit being put on by Labyrinth Photographic Printers : "This month it is putting on its third annual exhibition, A Year In Development, presenting more than 70 of its clients' hand-printed images that have been shot on film and developed at the lab over the past 12 months." And apparently people still fail to understand that both film and digital are photographic media that image makers consciously choose for a variety of reasons, both personally and aesthetically. Instead it always seems to end up as a puerile oppositional or contrasting type of debate. And sadly, it's also a reminder that people are rarely looking at actual photographs in an institution anymore (e.g., a public art museum), and instead seem to be content to view them on some sort of an electronic device at home (more often in a different size and venue than the author might have intended them to be viewed, etc..)
chris_livsey Posted April 8, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2014 As usual the headline states "the lure of digital" with the unwritten superiority of digital inferred. "some ... would even claim it is alive and well" again claim I can live without getting annoyed over breakfast, I was lured here by the thread title BTW. I thought we had a new stand developer technique that set new time standards and I was about to say it must have been exhausted at 6 months
