Starbucks

Possibly a Kodak Retinette, or Agfa Isolette.

Love that article, sums up pretty much what I thought when I looked at the advert. Pause button? Buying a coffee in Starbucks is quite stressful, the choice, the two stage queuing process, checking to see if that seat you were going to grab has been taken by someone else......Those people in the ad are probably talking shop, and one of those mobile phones is about to ring and interrupt them anyway!

Go to a proper Cafe where they'll bring the coffee to you!

I once joked with the girl in my favourite Neros, as she was putting the spent grounds in a bin bag, that the grounds were destined to be dried and sent to Starbucks down the road.

"Yes", she said, "but they go to Costa first".

I find Nero a bit too hit and miss nowadays. Costa isn't great but is consistent. Carluccio's has much better food but tries too hard to be something it is not. Apostrophe is my favourite of the chains. (I agree about McDonalds - far better coffee than Starbucks.)

I like a coffee in 'Aperture', one is in good company there!

Hi

Apertures carrot and ginger juice is the best in London, but Ivor (Red Dot Cam...) does nice coffee and it is free. Sorry Ivor.

The thing about Nero and similar shops is they have good light and the people I attend with will happily shoot of lot of M frames and it is only a matter of time before I get banned along with them.

Bar Italia in Soho, open 24hrs, and there's an excellent little Italian coffee shop at Neasden tube station. I used to look forward to visiting a client that way just to stop off for a coffee and snack en route!

Bar Italia - my favorite.

Another is a small shop on Charing Cross Rd as you walk up from Leicester Tube St to Cambridge Circus, on the right. I forget the name.

.....and nasty thick cups to drink out of and soak all the heat out of the coffee before you find a seat....:(

But what's the camera?????????

Oh yes, my guess would be a Voigtlander Vito, late type BL?, they had chunky chrome trim round the selenium meter window, and it looks like a shutter with EV settings on, which had small plastic knobs each side to release the locking between shutter speeds and apertures.

But what's the camera?????????

Looks like a chrome Leica M with a Summicron 35 ASPH lens on it without the hood. And because I don't see a prominent spot of silver where a self timer lever would be, that might narrow it down to a M2 (button), M6 or MP. And if you assume that the profile of the lens is correctly a 35 ASPH, then a reasonable guess would be that it's an MP. How's that for a decent guess??? ;)

In Melbourne, there is a deeply entrenched Italian coffee culture. Starbucks did not recognize this, and after a number of years, ditched dozens of outlets all around Australia. Some excellent cafe chains in Melbourne are Degani and Brunetti. The food is good along with the coffee. Independent Italian cafe's are great as well, as they usually have delicious in-store made cakes and savouries, too.

If hot chocolate is more your thing, as it is mine, Koko Black, fraus and Max Brenner offer a super range of the stuff. On a cold day, I love settling into a padded chair in Koko Black or Max Brenner and sipping a thick, creamy hot chocolate dusted with chili flakes. The hot chocolate from fraus is so thick that a spoon can almost stand up in it.
