You have the warranty for the camera so I would send it in if I were you. The old R4, R5 had the same problem as I recall.

I just purchased one of the first production models of R8 a couple weeks ago. Looks mint, so I thought I got a good camera. Sounds like maybe I should tke it back & buy an R9, huh? What would you do?

The R8 is a fine camera.
