Minilux

Leica in Solms recently told me that there is a flat rate of 120 Euro for the repair of a MINILUX.

Good luck.

...... which would make £50 for the faulty one a bit expensive. I've seen s/h prices come down from £180 to £130 recently, and you've got to factor in the hassle of sending it away to get it fixed. I'd say it's worth a tenner at most as it is!

I wouldn't buy a used MINILUX at all. Not after having read so many reports about E01, E02 E53, Exx errors.

The idea that you wouldn't buy one at all because 'they all go wrong' is why they are so cheap and therefore such a bargain! Get ine from a dealer who offers a year's warranty and you have one of the best Leica bargains there are. The lens is outstanding and I would say it's right up there with the very best Leica lens. I've had mine for three years and paid about £100 for it. That seems to me to be a bargain and the fact you can still get them repaired is a bonus and more than could be said for its more recent and expensive cousin the CM.

I'd say get one that's working and take the risk!

Thanks for the info guys, yes 50 quid seems a bit much for a busted one. Would love a CM but they are too expensive on ebay

BTW, the 120 Euro for repair was without VAT!!

Leica offered me to trade my broken MINILUX (E01) for a CM-Zoom for Euro 360,00 plus VAT. Would that be an option for you?

Hi Juergan

Are you saying you'll trade yours in for the CM and I buy the CM off you?

No, not really.

What I wanted to say is that you could probably try to find a cheap defective MINILUX and trade it in for a CM-Zoom yourself. What I don't know is whether this deal would work if the ML is second hand. Better talk to Leica first.

Where are you located?

I have a Minilux and as it says above it does great. I have a question about the error faults. I had the fault a few years ago and had mine repaired by Leica. Does anyone know if the fix actually permanently fixes the problem or does it just reset the clock, so to speak ?

Good question!

At the risk of perpetuating a (possibly false) rumour, I read somewhere that the E02 error was caused by the failure of a ribbon cable linking the main camera to a moving part in the lens (possibly to the shutter?).

Lets assume that this is true. Then the answer would depend on whether it's a straight replacement of the same cable with the smae inherent design weakness, or whether Leica replace it with an upgraded component. I just don't know the answer to that one!
