I currently have one and using it on my Olympus E300. Very lovely outfit. Here is an example of my OLIA (Olympus+ Leica) using the 24mm Elmarit-R lens. |

No, but I know from my APS-C (4/3 should be even worse) DSLR that in many situations you get too much depth of field with anything less than 24*36mm. Last edited by umb : 09/08/06 at 06:12 PM. |

I don't agree. The depth of field is the same regardless of sensor size.
In fact, the Summilux-R 50mm f1.4 will give the same depth of field at f1.4 using a chip size of 35mm or 4/3 or APS size. Remember, the sensor size changes nothing about the properties of the lens. It only crops, not transforms. |

so in 4/3 with a standard focal length you get the DOF of a 25mm lens, which is what i dont want. look at all the digital pictures with infinite DOF and you know what I'm talking about. Last edited by umb : 09/08/06 at 06:41 PM. |

I believe that will be the angle of view you would be referring to. Yes, I go agree. However, I have taken a different approach. For a 24mm lens, I step back from the subject to incorporate more of the view if needs be rather than switch to the more wide angle lens. If I were to use say a 18mm lens instead, that would give me the "look" of a 18mm lens but not a 24m lens (more distortion, etc.)
Of course, that's why Leica has digital specific lenses soon. It is supposed to correct for both view of angle and depth of field. Hopefully that 25mm f1.4 will give the fingerprint of the Summilux-R 50mm. |
