dem331 Posted October 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder if someone can help me out. The set up I have is this; iMac with all my photo files, by year, dating back to 1962 (my father's also) on LR5 2TB Hard Disk on Time Machine Back up of Time Machine in my safe box Back up of my back up at work. Yesterday my iMac was going really slow, so I decided to take some files to the external HD. I created a new directory and started moving in LR. All was going really well until everything came to a halt, half way through and LR hung up. I rebooted, and eventually realised that the external HD was full. I deleted some old back up copies from 2010 from the EHD to make space, and then started moving file by file from HD to EHD. The problem I have now is that some files will not copy over. I think it is because the computer identifies them as duplicates since the copying process of those files had started when it crashed. In some cases, I went into the folders in the EHD, found the partly copied file, deleted, and then copied the file from the HD, all OK The problem is that in other cases I can not find any duplicate partly copied files, so I am left with a set of files that will not copy to the EHD. Questions 1- I am thinking of renaming in LR5 and then trying to copy again. Is this the best way? 2- When I eventually have the folders/ files in a folder on the EHD, will Time Machine back these up as well. Sorry if this is a bit long-winded, but I am worried that I might destroy a lot of work and lose original files. Many thanks in advance. Not sure that I can help you, but I wouldn't touch the backup of the backup at work until I am sure the original or Time machine backup are recovered. Questions 1- I am thinking of renaming in LR5 and then trying to copy again. Is this the best way? First, I would recover the iMac files. Than I would delete all the files on EHD that were copied and come to the point where all started. Than I would clean up EHD, make sure there's enough space on it and start all over with the initial idea again. If your iMac has more files than the backup there are ways to synchronize/restore the missing files only without wiping out those newly added. Make sure you use such option for a restore. dem331 Posted November 1, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted November 1, 2014 Thanks Mirekti. In the end I deleted the files that would not copy over , did a manual list of the missing files by comparing with Time Machine Files and reimported them. Lost about 6 hours doing it, but now I have everything back in place, only about 50 files that have lost the develop adjustments.
