Buying Nik collection when you already have SFX pro

Question for those who may know:

I have silver Efex pro 2 ( free from Leica) on my computer. I would like to get the whole Nik collection.

What happens when I download as SFX2 is already installed and part of the collection?

Do I have to uninstall the copy I have now first? If so how.

Computer is a MacBook Pro, a year old. Not running mavericks because I see no point when I have everything running the way I want it

Thanks

I don't recall exactly what happened because I already had NIK, including SX, but I used the Leica copy to upgrade for free. This was pre-Google NIK. I have upgraded the entire package since then to add HDR and Analog. I then had the entire suite. It seems to do a pretty good job when you reinstall over an existing installation of keeping your licensing rights straight, so I would just go for it and see what happens. As long as you have your license numbers or receipt, they should straighten any problems out.

The Nik software is very benign when it comes to upgrading and adding new bits. As I recall when I got the Nik Collection (and had SFX2) already on my PC I just installed the whole lot and it sorted itself out perfectly, although I guess you could uninstall SFX first.

It is well worth doing though because the full Nik set is superb, there are of course some cheesy naff bits, but dig deep and the control it allows is tremendous, just like SFX but with colour.

Thanks to this post I retrieved my original email confirmation when back then I purchased Google's Nik collection at a discount (again thanks to a LUF post). The download link in the old email still worked, so I downloaded another copy. The file was a lot larger and had a different version number. I wonder what has changed?

Originally I purchased the Nik Collection by Google on 2013.03.31 for $126.65 for Mac OS X.

the upper part shows the Nik Collection by Google as of 2013.03.31.

The lower part shows the Nik Collection by Google as of 2014.08.22.

So, there seem to be quite a few changes and additions.

Post #2 (if that's what you meant).

Jeff

Nope, not my presets. They prepackage a lot of stuff, like film simulations. I assume most of that is code based, but in Analog Efx I suspect they have some sort of files for wet plates and other effects, but maybe not.

Thanks

Thanks K H, I didn't realise that my version of Nik was not updating untill I saw you post. It's updated now.

I've just done this in the last week ...... just follow the instal instructions .....

It just writes the new code and updates the plug-ins.

Everything works just as before ...... you don't need individual registration codes any more for the individual components.

Update: I installed it and as everyone said it worked perfectly. One slightly frustrating thing though... All of the programs ( save SFX) open in my Mac Pro screen instead of in my Eizo. Despite me dragging them over to the Eizo , the next time I open they are back to the Mac display.:(

Anybody have any idea why, or how to get them to "behave"?

Thanks

Have they updated them then recently, and if so how do you obtain the download....

You can only obtain the download via an emailed link (as far as I know this link always points to the latest build). If you can't find the email, Google will send it again if you contact them via the form here. I contacted them earlier this week and I received the link within a few hours.

I thought that Google Nik software updates itself automatically (for better or for worse) unless you remove the Google Updater, which is installed with the software package.

I have them.... I bought the whole package sometime ago. Am just curious if there has been a recent update, and if so is it as you say... Updates automatically ( although my computer is very rarely connected to the Internet - I tend to turn in the wifi only when I know there are updates to download such as LR 5.7.1)

If anyone knows whether there are new versions I would be interested in the answer .... I will turn on my wifi.
