Grskovic Posted May 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello! I am always setting the color temp manually and have noticed that the one shown in Lightroom 5 is always 800K less than the one set in camera. Has anybody else noticed that? Thanks! Advertisement Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Hi Grskovic, Take a look here M240 - wrong colour temp in LR5?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted May 28, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 28, 2014 Yes, that’s normal behaviour. Each raw converter has its own way of guesstimating colour temperature and the result may not agree with what you had selected in the camera menu. Nothing to worry about.
jip Posted May 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 28, 2014 I have not noticed this, but will test this tonight!
Jeff S Posted May 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2014 Discussed here. Welcome to the forum. Almost everything has been discussed here (and can usually be found through search box at top right). Jeff
Berth Posted May 28, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Yes, that’s normal behaviour. Each raw converter has its own way of guesstimating colour temperature and the result may not agree with what you had selected in the camera menu. Nothing to worry about. For example, when I set white balance to 5000 Kelvin in my M-E, in Aperture & iPhone it appears at 4185, much cooler than I would prefer. If I use the 'Daylight' preset in the M-E, it appears in Aperture & iPhone at 4536, 'Cloudy' appears as 5199, while 'Shade' yields 5776. mjh Posted May 29, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2014 The thing is that the camera doesn’t really care about colour temperature, and neither does the raw converter. What they do care about are the coordinates of a neutral colour and colour temperature is just a convenient (if only approximate) way of relating that to the user. When a specific colour temperature is selected in the menu, the camera will store that in the Maker Notes, but I doubt a raw converter would make much use of that info.
