Unable to download Lightroom v5 and Nik Silver Efex to my Mac

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?

Recently acquired a MM however I've been unable, after untold attempts, to download Lightroom v5 and Nik Silver Efex to my mac.

software-support at leica-camera.com have kindly reset my license count several times now however I still haven’t been successful.

The problem is the download starts, then download speed drops to a few kbps then disconnects in about 10-20 hrs.

I got around Lightroom by downloading a 30 day trial version from Adobe, download took about 5-10 minutes, then entering my licence. I got an email from Adobe warning me that my free trial expires in 30 days however hoping my licence means it will ok.

I didn't have any problems downloading Lightroom v4 when I got my ME. Never had any problems like this before. We've been using Macs since last century and I've never experienced anything like this.

The download 30 day trial is identical to any downloaded via Leica Camera's web pages. All that you need is the valid serial number to convert it from trial to normal licence. I have never tried to download the complete app via Leica Camera personally.

Actually every individual update that you will get involves a complete new download too.

The Nik package is a separate entity. I had no problem in it working with my LR licences personally.

I had the same problem. I had LR 4 and Silver Efex free with my MM in 2012.

I was able to download no problem.

When I bought my M240 I tried to download LR 5. Same trouble you had. Leica reset my Licence count a couple of times. Finally I gave up in disgust and frustration, abandoned trying to download from Leica, and paid $79 to adobe for the upgrade from 4 to 5. It was up and running in 15 minutes with no problems at all.

There some confusion there

Firstly Silver Efex Pro is a completely different product which anyone can purchase a licence for. However I think it was bundled with the Monochrom? Not with any other Leica cameras. These days, since Google acquired it the bundle price (for the whole range from them) is very cheap.

There was never any need to download the complete LR program via a Leica server. It is identical in every respect to a download from Adobe. All you need from Leica Camera is the serial number that they will send you. You add that to your existing installation.

Keep in mind too that every (free) point upgrade you do afterwards is a complete new program download in any case and those are from Adobe.

You get silver Efex with the monochrom as well as Lightroom.

Monochrom was my first Leica which is why I have it. Came with LR 4. When I bought M 240 it came with LR 5, and I had the problems attempting to download it ( wanted to upgrade my 4).

In my experience Leica doesn't send you the email with the software serial number until after you have pressed the download button on the Leica site.

So I don't see any way to download from adobe directly and use a SN from Leica, as you don't get it unless you attempt to download from their server.which crashes.

Something awry there. At least I have never downloaded LR from a Leica source and do have a licence from Leica for it. Currently I have LR bundled from Adobe with PS CC ($9.99 a month) as well as a licence purchased at retail too, so I don't recall off hand which licence on which machine applies.

Did you register your camera and then go to the members' area where the benefits are listed?

Good luck getting something sorted out. Since we don't have a large line of posts here on this being a problem, presumably one of the download sources/methods must be working for most people here?

Yes I did register it. I concluded in the end that the Leica server was timing out. Perhaps I could have used the emailed serial number for an adobe download , but I didn't think of it and it was only $79 to upgrade which is a drop in the bucket to what everything else cost. It's all installed now and has been working flawlessly, thanks.
