masjah Posted January 23, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I visited the Owners Area of the Leica website to register my new M, and see about getting my copy of Lightroom. In big red letters it says that Lightroom 5 does not support Windows Vista, which is my OS. I was told to download Lightroom 3.2 instead, which I did (at least the file, I haven't actually done the installation yet). But then I'm warned that 3.2 may not support the llatest Leica Cameras. Oh dear! Please does anyone know (a) Will the current Lightroom 5 in fact work on Vista or ( With Lightroom 3.2, can I download a raw plug in or something, for the M240, which will convert the raw files which the camera produces ANy advice much appreciated! jaapv Posted January 23, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2014 Vista is a bit of a disaster area, I would strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 7.
sandymc Posted January 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 24, 2014 Vista is a bit of a disaster area, I would strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 7. Yes indeed. But don't upgrade to Windows 8 - Vista risen from the grave to torment all of us Sandy
spylaw4 Posted January 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2014 The advances made in LR between 3.2 and 5.3 are considerable! I for one would not like to go back.
JohannB Posted January 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2014 I have been running Lightroom 4.4.1 on Vista with no problems for over a year. Not sure why they tell you to get 3.2 when you can get 4.4.1. Moved across to Win 7 on my new HP Z1 last week. Will be getting 5.3 later this year. If you have device drivers that force you to stay on Vista for now get at least 4.4.1. Johann

JohannB Posted January 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M240 camera profile was added from version 4.4. If it will handle the bigger DNG files from the M240 will depend on your PC's capacity. Johann
jaapv Posted January 25, 2014 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Yes indeed. But don't upgrade to Windows 8 - Vista risen from the grave to torment all of us Sandy Indeed, I write this from a laptop that came with Windows8… Fortunately it has a touchscreen which makes things slightly better. The worst thing is that it tries to force you to get a Microsoft account at every opportunity, like trying to use MAPI. I love Windows 8 for making me even more thankful that I am usually on Mac. masjah Posted January 25, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted January 25, 2014 OK here's a supplementary question. Does Adobe Raw Converter 8.3 support M240 DNG files? If so, I could use it on my Vista machine to convert to (say) TIFF, and then use the earlier Lightroom that Leica supply. A bit clunky, I know, but it ought to work. jaapv Posted January 25, 2014 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Elements 10 from 2011 supports M240 DNGs on my Macbook Air. I suspect it runs ACR 8.x LR5 is a significant improvement. I still would advise you to upgrade your Windows. Updating drivers is not too difficult. Edited January 25, 2014 by jaapv
