Jaap:
I have a digital camera (manufactured by another company) that did something very similar earlier this year. I was using it on a very humid day and many of the pictures made that day took on a similar purple cast - the odd color also was visible on the LCD when taking the pictures. The camera never really got wet, but the relative humidity was close to 90%. Once I returned to my air conditioned room where the humidity was much lower and the camera spent some time there, the problem disappeared and has never reappeared. Just a guess - but since you were at the beach, perhaps humidity had something to do with the problem.

UV/IR filter and AWB. It was the odd one out in a series of virtually identical shots.None of the others did this It was a dry windy day, so no moisture problems. ..One second later:

It's a AWB hickup.. Best to use a standard preset instead, like daylight, no such hick-ups and you can always fine tune in C1 if required.

Doesn't look like an AWB problem as only a part of the picture has a magenta cast. The area is not sharply demarcated either. Is it true that you had a UV/IR filter and not just a UV filter? It could have been a weird reflection or something in front of the lens -- a strap or something like that blowing in the wind?

Actually if you look at it in PS, you can see there are two magenta bands and the person sailing is between them...
I don't know what this is. If it was a WB glitch surely it would affect the whole file but the clouds look normal enough to me. Jaap--is this a RAW conversion? I'd suspect a write error somewhere in the chain; perhaps in the copy from the card (hopefully not in the camera writing to the card).

This occurs when the system can not finish writing the image ...you probably tried to shoot a burst or short sequence..even 2-3 shots. If the battery isn t fully capable then you get an incomplete write. You can t tell easily if your battery is Ok ..it maybe charged but can no longer handle a peak load. I bought new batteries just to be sure that this isn t a problem. This is not the old WB problem which seems to have disappeared with the new software. I probably get one of these every 500 captures and its normally in a sequence. Notice how difficult it is to get the kite and the boarder in the same frame. |

Very intersting.
I've included this on my DMR site where I'll try to address common problems and their solution in the future. So if anyone has suggestions to these, let me know. leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Pages - Leica DMR dSLR digital back sample photos and test |

Don't suppose you were listening to Jimi Hendrix or Prince at the time?
