I have a R8 with DMR and its been working very well, today I bought the SF 58 flash and wanted to put it to test. However once I put it on the and turn on the power the camera wouldn't fire up, I tried cocking the lever but its locked. In a panic I accidentally pressed the rewind release button and now the counter in the viewfinder shows a flashing 00 but the camera won't operate.
I searched through the old threads, tried cleaning all the contacts and reassembled the DMR still won't cure the problem. I have read the manual and checked all settings made sure the battery is fully charged but the counter still flashes and no operation, is there something I can do or should the unit be returned for repair? |

Disassemble the unit and reposition the sprocket wheel by hand.
This can also happen if you accidentally shift the multipe exposure lever. Last edited by jaapv; 01.07.2009 at 10:16. |

wind the camera
(with the DMR off.) If the R8 is totally blocked with the DMR off, give Leica a call. In Europe call Solms, in the USA call NJ, in the UK call Milton Keynes. This is basicall a mechanical problem with the R8, and is not a fault of the DMR. in that case. Last edited by jaapv; 01.07.2009 at 10:49. |

Ok I just removed the DMR and put the film back in place. However I dont have the R8 battery grip with me here right now, do I need it in order to wind the camera?
Is this a problem associated with R8 only? What about R9 owners? Quote:

You don't even have to put film in, just operate the wind lever with the DMR removed. If that is impossible you must call Leica for instructions, because in that case the camera is blocked. Basically flashing 00 means "film not loaded correctly or not completely rewound when using motordrive" . So the problem is in the interplay between the sprocket wheel and the winding mechanism.
Just try the following: Release the sprocket wheel by pushing the rewind button Ensure the sprocket wheel turns freely, make sure the multiple exposure lever is in the position "off" Operate the cocking lever ( If you cocked it at some earlier time that is obviously a step to skip) Release the camera Cock the camera once again That should get it back to a steadily burning 00 If not, it is jammed. There was an addendum to the DMR manual regarding the multiple exposure or rewind switch being engaged. I can't remember exactly what it said, but I think it was just a matter of putting the multiple exposure lever in the off position and then just rotating the wind sprocket with your finger until you got a click and the drive engaged again.
