I've recently purchased an M8. I'm using Sandisk Ultra II 2G (60X) memory cards. Although the reviewed photograph comes up on the rear screen almost instaneously, there is a 2-3 second delay when the photo is "resharpened" on the screen. this observation holds true when reviewing previously taken photographs as well. In the instruction manual, Leica says that increasing the "capacity" of the card will speed up both read/write and review speeds. Has anyone has any experience with this? I called Leica and didn't get a direct answer. I'm wondering if Leica is referring to Card speed (such as increasing from 60x to 133x), or card size (increasing from 2GB to 4GB). Any observations/experience would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ben |

What capacity is your 150x card? Since you get the same 2 sec delay as I do with my 60x card, It must be card capacity (GB) as Leica implies, that will speed things up.

I have been using the 2GB San Disk 133x card and I also get a delay. I have ordered the new San Disk 4GB SD-HC Ultra II. Not really expecting this to eradicate the delay. I'll post my observations of the new card.

I also get a 2-3 second delay, with a cheapo SanDisk 1GB temporary card I bought. I think that this shows that the delay must be in the processing, not the reading.

If it looks like the image is "resharpened" on the screen, my guess is that they something along the lines of progressive JPEGs, i.e., showing a little at a time giving the viewer a feel that something is happening rather than staring at a black screen for two seconds. Better user psychology.
Do you save JPEGs along with the RAWs or just RAW data? - Carl |
