i also was unhappy with the DMR support and have since sold mine. FW 1.3 was a dramatic improvement in Jpeg support and awb. As far as raw files go FW 1.1 was very solid. i personally found myself relying more on Jpeg files as time went on and i do not beleive the DMR was really intended to shoot anything other then iso 100 - raw. Support for FW 1.2 took to long and then was arguably retracted by Leica as they recomended FW 1.1, it seemd to take forever for 1.3 to finally arrive.

the 3 reasons i stopped beleiving in the DMR

1. The DMR/ R9 to heavy,
2. FW upgrades took to long to release
3. To much grain in high iso (especially with FW 1.1 or 1.2)
4. limited to 2.5 fps
5. buffer limited to a brust of 10 shots

i can see the flaw in the above even if you can't.

Maybe a bit of the Spanish Inquisition <grin>.

The regular setting I use is 400 ISO, although I have used 800 ISO with good results under v 1.3. with quality very slightly under the "old" 400 ISO with v 1.1.

Cheers

Well, your satisfaction level seems to be definitely way below normal.

Seems to be some general way ......

Having seen and admired Conrad's work for years, I think that the evidence of quality is very clear. Any suggestion that he has accepted a compromise, or is willing to accept anything other than great images is clearly nonsense.

However, I respect Peter's opinion on this matter.

Thanks Andy

I think the whole issue would not have escalated, would Conrad not have started this fight. I appreciate his opinion, but this does not mean that he can or should shut down other's opinions.

My experiences with the DMR were great, I only disliked several things which summed up led to my decision to finally sell and move back to Nikon (D3) till the R10 will be available. And I really hope this R10 will not have the issues the DMR has, because of lack of further support (which I fully understand why) and the fact that Imacon have stepped out of this.

BTW - AP2 can see DMR files now, but as others already found out it blows highlights, so finally not very useful. Maybe Apple will fix this in the end :-) I do not really care any further.

So I think we can close this discussion.

Well You are a nice bunch of happy people who seem to have forgotten that critics and proper feedback (there is no offensive material in this thread) lead to better products.
Alltogether Leica and it good or bad products should not be an exception when it comes to long-lasting product support. But in closing- this comment - moderators should do their job -including you Andy - and not cencor the comments made. Cheers Woland

Thanks also for this, but I must say I actually did not feel cencored by Andy.

And even less an issue because I understand his love for the DMR which he successfully makes great pictures with. So for sure it is hard that someone else is not happy with the same product.

But I think there is nothing to add, all those liking the DMR should be happyly do so also in future

I ordinarily use ISO 400:

Thanks Conrad and Doug for your replies.

You both make the DMR sing. That Goose shot is one of my top favorites, unreal.

These are the kind of things where a little more dof would be helpful: Dove, DMR, 400. Chickadee, M8, 640.

Best,

Mitchell

With the new firmware even 1600iso is usable with proper exposure. These hockey shots were done at 1600iso and converted with Lightroom and no third party noise reduction programs.

I must say I'm quite impressed by the birds and the sports pictures. Some guys here know clearly how to focus manually.

I am impressed by the abilities of the photographer to focus as accurate manually and fast.

But I am not impressed by the IQ - sorry.

Just another data point: I use the DMR as high as 800 ISO. Seeing Robert's ISO 1600 shots, I'll certainly try that out too... time was, when that "HI" push was truly unusable; I don't see anything in Robert's hockey shots that would lead to a bad print (though the contrast seems very high).

Here is the full frame. It is certainly not unusable like the previous firmware versions and 1600iso. BTW, I think it is better than Canon's first two professional SLRs at 1600iso. It is probably better than the Nikon D2x-D2H series at that iso too, but I haven't shot any to compare.

Rob, Great Shots !!

i do struggle with gymnastics shots..... i need a speed of 1/250th or 1/500th of a second to stop the image. My exposure is at 1600 iso, f2.8 (180/ 2.8) and at 1/125th.

The lighting is so poor in some of these places. however, when my daughter competes in a college arena i do fine, its the local gyms i just can't get the shot.
