I just found something very interesting I did not know was supported by the D-lux:
The West Coast Cameras Leica Specialty Shop - Your #1 Leica USA Authorized Dealer Having a glimpse of the price tag, does anyone know if there is some sort of a standard when it comes to electronic cable releases? In other words, is there an easy way to build one for yourself? I am willing to have a try since the price feels a bit steep, especially for a student like me. |

I don't think that release will work with the D-Lux 4. I looked over my camera and could see no place to plug it in.
Instead you might want to look at this Kleptography - Don Ellis - Richard Franiec's Components Bruce |

The electrical cable release you had a link to fits the Panasonic FZ50 or the Leica V-Lux1 only. The D-Lux 4 has no provisions for a cable release anywhere. I did look at the VERY nicely made mechanical release but I just use the auto timer to do the same thing. Hey, if you have a good tripod, it works just fine.

Oh, no. That's a bit of a letdown. So technically, there seems to be no way of adding some sort of an electronic cable release?
I got a question about the cable release linked in a post here. Looks really cool. From what I understand though, only the adaptor is included in the price, not the actual cable? Hmm, since I don't have one, where can I find one that looks like the one on the pictures (lx3 or d-l4)? |

Christopher:
The cable release in the photos is a simple mechanical cable release from the "old days" of film cameras. Readily available just about anywhere for a couple of bucks. Bruce |

The 2 seconds delay option in the software may not be as instantaneous as a cable release, but it's enough for the shake of the pressing to settle, and... it's free!
In absolute terms, a mechanical release also produces a minimal shake, which the delayed release does not... |

West Coast Camera's prices seem a little high - they're advertising a Leica S2 "body only" for $99,999,999.00, which seems a little steep!
On the bright side, you get $1 change from your 100 million dollar note ...Leica S System Pete.

The cable release looks like the one I have for my Digilux 2.
