As I was going over (again) dpreview's article on the M8, something caught my eye. I don't know if this is news to you, but page 5 of the dpr article had this interesting quote taken from the Leica M8 user manual:
"Flash units which satisfy the technical requirements for System Camera Adaption (SCA) System 3000, are fitted with the SCA-3502/3501, adaptor and which allow guide number control. When using adaptor SCA-3502 (from version 4) the white balance can be set automatically for correct color reproduction". Source: Leica M8 Hands-on Preview: 5. Body & Design: Digital Photography Review Am I to understand that the use of the SCA 3502 M4 (Leica TTL) adapter with, for example, the Metz 54 MZ-4, will provide extra information to the M8 for the calculation of the correct white balance ? |

I think what it is saying is when the proper adapter is used, the camera will know a flash is used and set the white balance to flash. I don't think it means it will tune the white balance to each particular flashes color temperature.
I hope this function can be turned off. When using flash as a fill, you may want to set your own white balance to balance the available with the flash. |
