I just received my D-Lux 4 Leica case (brown), and it was not what I expected:
1. It is MUCH! bigger than my D-Lux3 case. The Leica case I have for the DLux3 is approx the same size as the DLux3, it fits like a glove, it is the exact same style, where the cam slides in and the flap has a magnetic catch. The new case is about 50% larger. It has alot of extra space on either side of the camera. 2. The Dlux3 case easily fit in a Jacket pocket or purse, not this one. 3. The leather is very nice, but hard and inflexible. Are there other cases that are smaller, but look about the same? Were others expecting a smaller case as well? The reason I bought the DLux4 was the size, I dont need a case that almost doubles it. |

Sorry you were surprised. I really like the case and you are correct that it's not for a pocket. I use my C-Lux 2 for pockets. The Luigi advice is probably valuable.

i picked up a used leica cl case on ebay for 50usd- i love that soft leather it fit perfectly- doesnt add any bulk to the camera- (ie still able to put in my suitcoat pocket) and yet protects lens/lcd

The dimensions are: DL4: 109(w) x 56(h) x 27(d) DL3: 106(w) x 56(h) x 26(d) If I shake the case with camera in it (open or closed) it doesn't rattle so there's very little extra space around the camera. There's just enough room so that the camera glides in and out smoothly without sticking or snagging. I don't have my DL3 or case anymore so I can't compare directly but from memory there's not a lot of difference between the cases. YMMV. Pete.

I am now thinking that my case was not a Leica original, even though I bot it from a Leica dealer. It did NOT have a Leica logo. Is that a sign that it was not a Leica case?
Anyone see a case just like the Leica case type, but smaller? |

there are several knockoffs of the Leica case out there.
Leica D-LUX3 D-LUX2 /Panasonic LX1 LX2 LX3 Leather Case - eBay (item 390008498108 end time Dec-13-08 17:55:54 PST) the original comes in a Leica box and has Leica embossed in the front. |

We don't know whether it was sold as an original Leica item, or just as a case that would fit.
If the latter, and the price was right, then the OP has less of a complaint with the dealer.

I purchased it from a Leica dealer in Paris, I have a picture of it that I will post here:
The more I look at it, it probably was not a Leica case, but I liked it much better, much smaller, and very hard leather, so it protected it well. Any ideas other than Ebay where I can get one for the DLux4? |

I bought my Official Leica D-Lux 4 Case from National Camera: Burnsville, Golden Valley, or Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Intex,
Your photo is definitely not the official Leica D-Lux4 case. The D-Lux4 case is shown here. Pete.

I know it is not the regular case, but another dealer has told me that it is the case that comes with an extra battery, sold as a Leica accessory?? Anyone know anything about this?

a case similar to yours (with the battery and a wrist strap) was sold for the dlux3. the box it came in looked very much like the box of the dlux3 itself, in red, silver grey and black. the case itself, however, did not have the leica trademark. it bore a "made in china" label but was available through authorized leica dealers as an accessory kit. perhaps the version you have for the dlux4 is meant to hold the dlux4 with grip attached? it certainly sounds possible from your description of the size.

Andy,
Actually the Battery and accessory case are made for Leica. It has a small Leica logo on it, and is sold thru Leica dealers. I do not understand why it is not on their website though. |
