The clicking is certainly normal.
The whine is usually only heard in close proximity to the M8 sub-forum ![]() Regards, Bill

Would'nt worry. My LC1 has a rusty sound when you move the body about. I think its the motors moving the apperture blades or something, adjusting to the changing light level. Whatever it is, it all works fine.

LOL! I'll give you a serious answer
All sensor cameras can give out a very soft high-pitched whine. Not everybody is keen enough of hearing to notice it. So yes - it is normal. |

It's also an age thing.
Younger listeners always crank up the bass because they have higher sensitivity to upper frequencies. As you get older you're not as sensitive to higher pitched sounds. JT

Serious answer: (a first for me?), depending on what your settings are this could be either/both autofocus and/or metering doing their stuff. I'm assuming that it is a VERY quiet whine, unlike that from the M8 forum, as previously suggested.
To find out which, switch to manual focus..... etc.

I think the whine is due to some internal power supply circuitry, and may be related to the LCD display. It may be that if you turn off the LCD and use the internal viewfinder display the whine will go away.

Nope.. it whines whether in auto focus, LCD view, aperture preferred or shutter preferred... or full manual. It whines... BUT.... I have to have my ear up to it. And THAT makes it difficult to manually focus. At least for me.

SERIOUSLY: I never paid attention to it and have my D2 on all the time. But now you mention it, I can hear it when having my ear to the screen. I'm quite sure it's around the sensor/screen area. I know many D2-users sleep with their D2, and so do I of course, but as I keep it under the pillow, I don't hear the whining that much.

What's all this ear to the screen stuff- are you confusing the D2 with a phone-camera?
