Hi guys, I'm new here. Been wanting a Leica for ages but never got down to it. I just got my D-Lux 4. I also have the Panasonic LX3. Hehe. I was curious about how different they r so what better way than to buy both. Hehehe
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The hardware sure looks exactly the same. I'll hafta try them out to see if there's any differences in superior RAW, JPEG processing, noise reduction as claimed by some ppl. |

You forgot to mention one is German, the other Japanese, and one has little bits of Henri Cartier Bresson ground up in the paint before they spray so that you get that genuine Leica glow to everything you do.

Please post some comparison shots as soon as you can. At my local shop the Leica is doubled in cost compared to the Panasonic. I found the blues were too bold with the Panasonic when comparing earlier models (LX-1 vs Panasonic). I just shoot JPEG and do very little post editing, since I've never learned yet.
What made you decide to get both of them? Regards, Carlos Marques |

I have just received my brown leather case in the post from my local camera shop and will post some pictures when i get home from work. I am not instantly happy with the enclosed wrist strap but like the look of yours , where did you get it from?

I found the brown strap on the internet
"Leica Wrist Strap for Leica C-Lux 2 Digital Camera (Cognac-brown) only $19 but they wanted $72 to ship it to me, looks like I will have to see if Santa can fly me one over a bit cheaper. |

I just got my case.........I told my dear wife that was going to cost $220 but it turned out to be $180.......I should get quite a few extra points for this savings.

Welcome! I too am curious to see some comparison shots. Also: Do you notice any difference in the mode dial on the top. I was looking at the D-Lux4 and LX3 today at my local shop and it seemed like the D-Lux dial was tighter and hence less prone to being knocked into the wrong position. |

@ RIDE, I will set up my tripod n do sum back to back shots for sure. I just got home from a vacation in Shanghai, a bit tired from the travelling. Will do the comparo shots mebe next week.
@ martin, I took my EOS40D to Shanghai n found it too cumbersome coupled with the f2.8 lens. I had my wife n 3 kids with me. I can tell u travelling with wife n kids + big heavy SLR reduces ur enjoyment of the vacation. What I wanted was a superb compact cam for the vacation. Off I went to the cam shops in Shanghai n got myself a nice lil cheap LX3. I was so happy with the performance of the LX3 I decided to get the D-Lux4 too as I guessed things can only get better or at least I feel better with that red badge on it. @ rob_x2004, u r absolutely right. @ Tenor1, ya the D-Lux 4 cost me double the amount I paid for the LX3. @ oldnikonman, it's an optional wrist strap for the C-Lux 2. Available in brown or black. I paid about USD30. I wanted the brown leather case too but they were out of stock. @ mishima, the specs for both cams r exactly the same from what I've read. It's just the JPEG processing n noise control that's supposedly different. @ skimmel, yes ur right. That was the 1st thing I immediately noticed between the 2 cams. |

Thanks ianho_.
I am on the fence as well. Leica Days is coming to my local store this weekend and they are offering $100 off any purchase >$600. So, I can get the D-Lux for about $750. I also just heard they have extended the warranty on the D-Lux to 3 years -- so I'm very tempted! I'd like to see some good evidence on image differences -- that would be the clincher. |

Go ahead n get it, we all know u want that red dot. As Oscar Wilde once said "the only way to beat temptation is to give in". Yes the warranty is 3 years. U hafta fill out a form with ur details n stuff, then take an online survey n BAM, 3 years warranty for ya. I've heard that the LX3 in USA only gets 90 days parts n 1 year labor warranty. That's totally lame. I bought my LX3 in Shanghai n it only comes with a local warranty applicable only in China which equates to no warranty at all for me. ![]() |
