Hmmmmmmm............ just found a major difference between the LX3 n D-Lux4. I read rumors about the Leica having a better lens though the LX3 supposedly has the same lens. The Leica definitely has a different multi coating treatment on the lens. It can b clearly seen side by side under the same light.
Here's a pic. It's even more obvious in real life. ![]() So.......... we now know there are differences between them although the hardware spec sheet claims they're identical. I feel much better now after paying double the price of the LX3. Looking forward to finding out more differences between them. ![]() |

If you put the lenses in exactly the same lighting (angle, etc), how different do they look? |

Look forward to seeing side by side shots taken with both cameras (please, same subject, time, lighting, ISO and settings).
We always hear how the Leica versions are meant to be set up differently (firmware) to the Pana's but I've yet to see any such photographic comparison. |

Hello, I am new to these forums and also am a new Leica DLUX 4 owner. Just got mine 4 days ago and have been searching for more sample shots of these two cameras (LX3 and DLUX 4).
First thing I want to say is that I had two disappointments with my new DLUX 4. 1) The color seems to be off with flash shots. Makes people skin tones look pale with a pinkish-blueish hue to them. I also notice that the non-flash outdoor shots have same bias towards more blue-ish colorization than all of my other cameras (Canon, Sony, Panasonic). 2) My Leica lens seems to have some slight softness (blurriness) on the left side of some pictures. Center and right side of lens are consistently sharp and in decent focus, only the left side shows symptoms of blurriness. So, with that said, In the sample shots link provided by precvious poster, I would tend to guess that the photos that have a more yellowish white appearance are the LX3 and the one that seems to have a more blue-ish tinge to them are from the DLUX 4. Also, from what I have gathered, both cameras are exactly the same mechanically and electrically, just in different bodies. Go for the LX3. The DLUX 4 jpeg processing of colors is not all that great from what I can see. So it is a matter of tastes. BTW, the WB can be fine tuned in the menus, but I feel for the high price I paid for this camera vs. the LX3, that I should not have to go in and fine tune the default settings to correct the color balance. Other than this I love the wide angle and the camera does take some really fantastic and sharp pics. It just is way OVER priced for what it is compared to the LX3. Happy shooting! |

I finally managed to get some time to shoot with my D-Lux 4 yesterday and noticed some softness on the right side in one picture. I need to examine more photos to see if it's consistent.

LX 3 and the D-Lux 4, so which has the highest noises for jpeg? .. i've notice that LX-3 is running on "Venus" software but does it make any difference compared to D-lux 4 (which im not too sure what software it is.. "leica" probably?

Well guys; I moved from a "sounds like a good little camera for my pocket" to "I think I save my money and have look at others in the market" person. Quite an interesting perspective from people who have first hand experience of it in general use.
Thanks. |
