Hi all,
I would like to convert my current R lens (19/2.8 latest and 50/1.4 latest version) to Canon EF mount permanently with electronic aperture (to function just like the Zeiss ZE lenses!). Anyone know of any person that can get the work done? I'll also provide the canon 20/2.8 and 50/1.4 for the mounts and electronics. Thanks in advance! |

You can also buy cheaper adaptors from eBay, some with a chip that allows focus confirmation. Not all of the adaptors allow focus confirmation, if that's important then make sure you get the correct one.
Note that there are mirror clearance issues with some of the lenses - mainly the wider ones - and some of the EOS bodies - seems to be mainly the 5D. I have a feeling the 19mm may be one of those lenses with an issue if you want to use it with a 5D. Also note that you have to stop down manually - no auto diaphram - and some of the bodies lose metering precision when using a non EOS lens. The 5D for example tends to increase the exposure as you stop down the lens. Plus the standard screens are not the best in the world for manual focussing, though some of the Canon bodies allow you to fit an alternative screen. After saying all that, if you can live with those limitations the lenses work very well indeed. |

Thanks for the sugesstions but I already have adaptors.
I've been living in a cave for a few years with my R lenses (mounted on a Canon 20D via adaptors) and hoping to see a Leica DSLR when I get in touch with the world. Unfortunately, the Leica R is dead or atleast I've given up hope. I love my R lenses too much to give them up without a last ditch effort to adapt them to Canon cameras. On the Zeiss front, it's very exciting. Zeiss ZE with electronically controlled aperture and actual EXIF data. This gave me hope that one could do the same to existing R lenses and hence my question. |

Converting existing R lenses to electronic aperture control is grossly impractical. If you can't wait until Monday to see what Leica has in store for R, sell the lot and get some ZE lenses. Some of the Zeiss stuff is pretty good.

Thankyou wildlight' for saying that,,,,,,I'm glad I'll never understand the Canon needs Leica thing. Use L lenses - the body it set up for auto-focus and that's in part what people pay for, and it does an excellent job at it. But just for digital? Oh well........

Only good enough, nothing in their stable can remotely touch their R peers.
![]() It is extreme funny though, why would they start with the 50/1.4 and a 85/1.4??? Let's forget about the R for a second, Canon's offering at these two focal lengths are extremely good (50/1.0L, 50/1.2L, 50/1.4, 85/1.2L 85/1.2L II, 85/1.8), and faster than the Zeiss. And the Canon can be used in both AF/MF modes too. LOL |

![]() The zeiss looks good. I'll try the ZEs when they become available. If the looks and feel of the photos are what I like, I'll switch. Sad to say, I've pretty much exhausted my patience with Leica (on the DSLR) and of the opinion that Leica has nothing for the R on the table. That said, please Leica please prove me wrong and make me eat my words! Announce a DSLR with the physical size of Canon 5D at most and a price comparable that of the M8. Crop or FF doesn;t matter. Just a DSLR, please. |

![]() I've use L lenses for about a year and at the end of the day, I find more joy and satisfaction in using Leica lenses even on a Canon body. Leica got nice R lenses, just need a digital camera..... |

The 50 1.4 R Lux is fine with the EOS mount. It's the wider lenses--the 19 and 35 Lux in particular--that don't work.
Alas, I'm selling my 5d and picking up a D3 instead. Bye Canon! More importantly, bye Leica-on-Canon mounts. (why? Because I've grown to loathe the autofocus on the 5d, the 5d2 supposedly has the same system, and the Nikon is just more appealing). I'm totally dependent on Leica at this point for a future path for my R gear. I hope they have one; I'd love to (someday) sell all my non-Leica stuff. Though I admit parting with Canon's excellent 50 1.2L will hurt me most ![]()
