Default D-Lux 4 conversion tube and accessory lens

i have read that the pana lx-3 has a conversion tube and accessory lens you can buy that will turn the 24mm wide end to an 18mm f2 superwide.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3: Digital Photography Review

any news on the availability for the leica's ?

also it seems that panasonic has an ever-ready case for the lx3. the d-lux 3 uses the known d-lux3 case which is now also available in black........an ever ready case would be very convenient though

Leica will not have this wide-angle accessory as the lens is not of Leica's design and the optical performance was not up to Leica standards. Wide-angle adapters of this type typically sacrifice quality.

Regarding the D-Lux 4 case... it is not the same case as the D-Lux 3 case. The D-Lux 3 will fit in the new case, but not the other way around, as the D-Lux 4 is larger.

Hope this helps.

Default AW: D-Lux 4 conversion tube and accessory lens

hi david,

thanks for your info and explanation.

now i see that both case have different reference numbers (but lhave imo the same design).

a pity that leica is not releasing a case when the viewfinder and grip are fitted.

next week i will visit photokina and will ask them for further info.

I would also like to see a ready case for the dlux4 with grip attached. Also was there some talk of a telephoto attachment? Will there be a filter attachment like the panasonic or will the panasonic fit?
thanks

The LX3 half case is more practical and attractive, IMO.

Idee Re: D-Lux 4 conversion tube and accessory lens

looking at the D-Lux 4 picutres it seems like the lens might be screwed off. so, might it be replaced by a different lens to be released in the future? that would be awesome!

Atomax, go to your nearest corner store and try out the panasonic LX3, it is exactly the same camera and will answer all your questions. The short answer to the one you posted is ... No.

Hi David,

That's probably true but for those who don't mind sacrifising the quality now and again, I presume the Panasonic accessory will fit the D-Lux 4?

David:

Please forgive my confusion, but I'm looking at a picture of the LX-3 on the B&H web site and the lens clearly says Leica on it. So the photo is incorrect?

The same is true of Leica's photo of the D-Lux 4 - that lens too has Leica on it.

Could you be thinking of the C-Lux 4 instead?

I would imagine he's describing the adapter when he says "lens" --- the adapter was not designed by nor up to Leica's standard. Adapters have glass elements, so it's perfectly reasonable to describe them as lenses.

Incidentally, Leica's website has the D-Lux 4 listed now, and has available accessories listed as well. The adapter is not offered by Leica.

Ah. That makes much more sense. Thanks for educating me.
