For those of us who were interested in the data sheets for the new Tri Elmar and Elmarit, they are now on the Leica web site.
If the data for both are to be believed these lenses perform remarkably for their type. The Tri Elmar seems to outperform even the 15mm R lens that costs a fortune. Distortion is well controlled and contrast high across the frame. As to why one would purchase the gigantic Zeiss 15mm for the same price as the 16-18-21 is at this point a major question, and I'm sure Zeiss will be re-thinking their production quantities. The Elmarit 28 is notably better (on paper) than the Zeiss equivalent. Interesting that they seem to have beat Zeiss at their own game regarding price/performance on both lenses. Both Zeiss and Leica data sheets are remarkably true to real world performance in my experience. I really look forward to using these new lenses. Best wishes Dan |
