Default Capture One LE colour management settings

In Capture One LE in workflow, colour management settings the drop down has a setting under camera profile of "Leica M8 generic UV-IR. I presume this is to be used when using the said filters as supplied by Leica foc.

Can anyone recomend a good text book on Capture One LE. After much playing it seems to be an excellent programme and I would like to learn more.

David, firstly you can update your copy of Capture One LE to Capture One 4 for free, using the same activation code. Can I suggest that you go to their site and you should find some useful information from other users available there too? Using the Help function of Capture One, you can get the User manual, access the updates, activation etc and get to their User Forum. I couldn't see any specific books on Capture One available via Amazon.

David, Hoppy's advise is pretty much on the money. C1 Ver.4 is worthwhile the update effort. Learning, I am afraid, is pretty much a user practice, practice, pract...... if get my meaning. I have just finished processing 620 images from yesterdays stage shoot and C1 did a very streamlined and high quality job. However, that was coupled with a fair bit of practice in my past. In the ensuing week, I will shoot probably another 2 - 3000 images. All will be processed at the end of each day in C1 and delivered ewach day to the client. I cannot get that confident performance and quality from other RAW processors, but that may be my fault.

Default for Hoppy and Erl...

Seriously many thanks for the advice. Have downloaded and installed Capture One 4 and it looks to have all the minor annoyances of LE improved, the screen divisions in particular.
Just returned from a "photographic" walk so processing starts now.

thanks,

I'm with Erl. I get a lot of workflow out of C1, as well.

If you do a search here, Guy Mancuso posted a how-to for C1. It would get you started.

Go here:

V4 is different from the version that came with the camera, but after you find where the functions have moved to you'll be ok. V4 is much more powerful and also much easier to use than the earlier one.

I did use V4 for a while but reverted to 3.7. I do not like the V4 Capture one folder that it uses to store all of the file settings. It treats DNG files just like any other RAW file with XMP files. I moved the adjusted DNG files and lost all the settings because I didn't copy the 'special' folder also. I have also converted NEF files to DNG and Capture One does not recognise these converted files.

Bill, thanks for that, having just processed a set I am full of admiration that the complications of using LE seem to have been resolved. Add that to my Adobe Photoshop 7 and M8 and I feel I am almost up to digital speed. After checking the web I am also suprised that C1 is held in such high regard. As a convert from film, I have even taken the batteries out of my M6, I became seriously disatisfied with JPEG and now only shoot RAW. I have set the M8 never to produce the taken image on the screen and that seriously enhances battery life. The only problem is that I can no longer view and edit shots on my Epson P3000 as it does not read DNG and to include JPEG takes up space on the SD card. Perhaps Epson will add DNG but somehow I doubt it.

Anyway thanks for your assistance,

Has anyone else noticed that the Phase One 'User's Forum' has disappeared?

David, I am using DNG as the format setting, as well. However, you can always "Play" the image on the M8.

I find that the battery lasts for 300 - 600 pix, with no auto review. If you carry some spares, you won't have a worry.

Regards,

I'm with Bill on this! I find that the Leica setting yields some pretty exaggerated colors, & the plain vanilla DNG setting is the more 'realistic' of the two.

It's wise to experiment with the 2 settings before settling on a standard workflow!
