Default Which digital compact camera should I get?

Hi, I'd like to get a small Leica digital compact camera for my wife. What should I get?

She's young and can handle technology.
Camera should be relatively small and comfortable.

I'm not entirely shure whether the M8 would be something...

Thanks for any opinions.

Spirelli,

I just got a C-lux-2 for my wife and she likes it a lot. I even like it. I believe Leica just dropped the price on this model.

It's small, does big and small jpg's, captures 7mp in the best quality, and is pretty easy to use. What I like about it is that it fits in a pocket (or purse). The lens collapses into the body and covers up.

The flash is a little puny for me. When I was reading the manual I noticed that at iso 100 the flash runs out of steam at 2.5 meters or something like that. Just not enough. For this reason, I have my wife using iso 200.

It does SDHC, if you want. I stuck some 2gb SD cards from my stock in it. (Of course, Leica ships the useless, tiny card that comes with all Leica digicam's. I don't understand this feature.)

The extra battery came with a very handsome leather case for the camera. It never hurts to give the bride "jewelry."

I would stay away from the M8... for the occasional photographer, its too difficult to operate.

The C Lux is a fine choice but let me recommend the D Lux 3.

It does cost a bit more but it produces files that are absolutley beautiful. You can shoot it in full auto mode or use the usual assortment of assisted modes all the way up to full manual. The camera will also produce raw files. What I'm saying is that the camera will grow with you as you want it to... or it will be a great p&s. It is small and will fit in a medium size purse...

how do I know? I gave one to my wife and she loves it.

I would vote for the c-lux as well. i have a clux-1 which never leaves me. i take everywhere even when i have my d2 or my m3 it is small - it fits in my jean pockets if i am not wearing a sport coat/or suit. I even take it on my morning jog- you never know what you are going to see and what is foto worthy.
