just got a Lumix DMC-FS3 with an elmarit as a social camera/movie clip maker.
The image processing is a bit limiting but a sharp A4 print and a movie you can put on a DVD does the job. Any opinions on the Leica image processing vs the Venus engine IV and tweaks for the workflow? |

What do you mean by “Leica image processing”? Leica’s current crop of compact digicams is based on the previous generation of Panasonic models still using the older Venus Engine III.

Michael
I was under the impression that there was a difference in the processing between leica and lumix. Leica D-Lux 3 vs. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 Photo Gallery by koo22 at pbase.com but this might only apply to the higher end models. I have played around with wide area unsharp masking ie greater than 50 pixels to pep up the images and smart sharpen in photoshop. I am impressed by the lack of purple fringing in the highlights which affected my Fuji F700. |

Pierre--
You and Michael are actually on the same page: 1) Leica takes over only certain models from Panasonic. 2) So far as I'm aware, with the single exception of the D-Lux 2, all the Leica versions differ somewhat from their Panasonic counterparts. 3) Leica's current models are all based on the previous generation of Panasonic product, so we're dealing with completely different cameras, not just 'tweaks.' 4) The range of Leica's tweaks has varied from model to model, but the consistent one according to an LFI article a couple years back, is that Leica adjusts color rendering to be more pleasing to European taste. I hope that clarifies a bit!
