Default Vario Elmar (R)... which?

Hello guys, my troubles still lives on, I'm still unsure about the DSLR to choose, and I was considering a 5D with R-to-Eos adapter with some nice R zoom lenses... (for the prime I still prefer my M8).
So this is my question: what zoom would you consider and why? (in the wide-medium range)
I'm really a newbie with R-stuffs, and I've seen a Vario-Elmar-R 21-35 f 3.5/4 ASPH that seems nice...
And what about the 35-70? or 28-70?

Comments and samples are well accepted...

Thanks a usual...

I would choose whichever DSLR you prefer and an appropriate AF lens.

I keep thinking about a Canon DSLR (I already have a few R lenses) but I don't see the sense in buying a Leica zoom specifically to mount on a Canon body. Why not make full use of the AF features?

On the other hand maybe you should wait to see what Leica show up with at Photokina?

Well I've just started using an 80/1.4 Leica R on a Canon 1DS body (Novoflex adapter) and focus is spot on at f/1.4 end of story! But I don't think that I'd bother with an R zoom on a 5D unless I had a very good reason to want to use the combination (I have a 5D too) as Canon's 28~70/2.8 is a pretty good performer anyway and offers more compatibility.

The reason I am using the 80 is because I have a Canon 85/1.2 and end up manually focussing it more often than not anyway. The 80 is incredibly more positive in its focus (the 85/1.2 uses a 'powered manual focus) and initial results from it are stunningly good.

Another point, at a max aperture of f4 say, manual focus will be more difficult given what will probably be a rather dim viewfinder.

The 21-35mm will not work with the 5D. The shroud around the rear element of the lens fouls the mirror. I read somewhere that this shroud can easily be removed simply by undoing a couple of screws. However, at least on my version of the lens there are more than a couple of screws and one seems to secure the rom contacts in position so I haven't attempted it! The 35-70mm and the 70-200mm work fine.
Hope this helps.

I must confess that although the 35-70 f4 is a great lens, I find it a bit dim for me to use. i love the 28-90 and also love the 28 fixed. Each of those lenses give me magnificent sharpness and color rendition

Thanks a lot guys, after reading yours and other's opinion concerning tha canon 5D+ Leica R lenses, i'm reconsidering it and maybe strating to hope for something to arrive in september .... who knows?
Otherway I'm thinking once again for an Oly E3 as my M8's alter ego...
Time will tell...

@pgk:
thanks for your reply, the only reason for using a R-zoom lens would be to leave all the prime lenses for my rangefinder. With a DSLR, autofocus apart, I would like to use max 2 zoom lenses and cover a larger focal range...
I was thinking about something from 24 to 200/300 mm... but this is another story.

Thanks again to you all guys! This was interesting to read.

That would be my way to go too. I have seen some superb prints taken with the E-3 with both R and latest pro Oly lenses.

Default AW: Vario Elmar (R)... which?

The 21-35 is a fine lens indeed and it works perfectly on my 40D as well. The focus confirm adaptor from Tago Singapore helps plus changing the focus screen on the 40D. Absolute no problems getting focus right even better hits than complete auto Canon lenses and let me tell you those are poor anyway. Quality control plays a part.
My advise would be to wait there are issues with the finderprism arrangement in the current 5D a new model may solve these.
Best is perhaps to wait for the coming R10 at least this is my resolution.

The 35-70/4 is a great lens. The 28-70 is a dog in my opinion. I sold it after a few rolls.
Get an AF confirm adapter and change to the apropiate screen. I changed it on my 40d and it makes a real difference.
