Leica Novice

I have just discovered this group and respect the combined energy and talents and knowledge it contains. Please bear with me if you think I am lowering the tone with my simple observations and questions.
I have the Nikon D2x and have longed for something smaller. When I saw the M8 on the net I just plunged headlong, never held a Leica before, nor seen any lenses. But that didn't deter me, bravely, foolishly, I placed myself on a waiting list and decided to get ahead and buy a second hand an M mount lens in preparation, after all they are all compatible aren't they?
So I now have a rigid summicron f2 50 mm lens with the goggles(?). I have never seen anything so beautiful. It is an engineering marvel, so smooth, so wonderfully put together, I think I get the Leica thing now and I am hooked. In comparison my Nikkors look flimsy.
Now to my question, I read that this lens will not mount on the M8 without some remedial work. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or offer advice.
I will try to keep future posts precise and short.
