Default Capture One Locked and orientation feature confusing.

Capture One won't let me manipulate some pictures even though in Vista they are not write protected and I've enabled administrative priviledges to all users to manipulate the pictures. Furthermore, it is frustrating that Capture One and Photoshop orient the picture according to how the camera was held when taking the pictures (there must be a sensor in the camera that is gravity sensitive) but this orientation does not show up in Windows previews. So, here I sit looking at pictures needing to be rotated and not being able to rotate them. Help please!

Hi Scott,
Are you using CO3.7.x or CO4? CO3.7.x is not Vista compatible. There is an instruction on how to install and run it on Vista in a knowledgebase article on Phase One's web site:
http://www.phaseone.com/home/Content...ite%20-%20Main
If you did not install it according to these instructions, remove the software and install it again. Next, follow up the instruction regarding how to run CO3 in Vista. But again, your perhaps are already on 4 which is compatible with Vista.

As with 99,9% of all current cameras, the M8 has a sensor with sets the orientation flag in the picture. In the M8 it cannot be switched off (in some cameras it can). Almost any image software reads the flag and displays the image accordingly. I am very surprised to hear the Windows Vista's preview does not take that into account. Have to try that later myself (I am primarily on Mac but use Windows too).

Ok, I've figured out the locked bit and working that out with Phase One, but the problem now is that pictures rotated from Photoshop are squashed when viewed with Capture One 4. There is still the issue that pictures viewed through the Vista viewer are horizontal but upright when viewed both with Photoshop and Capture One 4, which must be due to the gravity sensitive feature on the camera that gives a signal to the software to reorient the picture that Vista is not aware of. I can get around this by uploading the pictures into another folder and reorienting the pictures, but why all the hassle? Am I not loading in the pictures correctly from the outset to where they are oriented correctly?

If Windows Vista's preview has a bug (which I suspect based on your information) don't blame yourself or the software.
By the way, do you already have SP1 installed for Vista (which might/might not effect the problem)?
