Having mulled it over last evening, I have decided NOT to buy the R8/DMR from my local dealer - other items take priority unfortunately (fast M lenses) so if anyone wants one you can contact them via sales@cambrianphoto.co.uk. Cambrian Photograph in Colwyn Bay are an authorised Leica dealer and I have dealt with them for 25 years and have found them to be excellent. (Other than buying far too much from them I have no other connection!). They can't split the R8/DMR because they have no back for the camera!!! Price is just under £2k. Hope it finds a good home.

So just to keep things normalized (in usd - ie. a seller and a buyer both in the US)
would you say $4000 is about the going rate for a used DMR in excellent shape ? just curious |

Camera West has a couple DMR and R9 combos for sale on their web site. They are $6595 and $6995. Since the price includes the R9, you could probably deduct around $1,600 for the camera, putting the retail of the DMR at $5,000- $5,500. I was in Camera West a few weeks ago when I attended the GetDPI workshop and I think there were three DMR in his used showcase, so he may have sold one since then. Robert |

I am still offering my R9/DMR combo for $5300, and I'm including an extra battery, the brightscreen, and the brightscreen magnifier. Interest has been tepid at best.
I have even offered to include the 35 Summicron or the 2x ROM extender (buyer's choice) for wire transfer buyers, to no avail. Maybe I do not have enough posts to be taken seriously in this forum. Jonathan ____________ Jonathan Reiss jonathanreissphotography.com |

Yes Jonathan,
I think Robert is right - I've been following the prices of the DMR on ebay and just yesterday one sold for $4500 without camera. Ebay is going to give you much more reach - with the thought of an R10 on the way there are probably more sellers here in the L-camera forum than buyers. Another place to try is FredMiranda.com There is a WTB DMR post in their buy and sell forum right now. Eric |

Thanks for the Head's Up on the FM WTB.
I will also try eBay. I thought the LUF might be better as I typically avoid purchasing from sellers with tiny transaction histories, of which I am one. Jonathan _______________________ Jonathan Reiss Photography jonathanreissphotography.com |

I see Camera West has a DMR/R9 combo on Ebay. It is currently over $4,000 with four days left to go in the auction. The auction number is 260238683972.
I was in Camera West last month and saw this unit in the display case. Camera West is a reputable shop and was the first Leica Boutique in the USA. They will also work with the international buyers to make the shipping as painless as possible. Robert |

I am about to buy a DMR in the next two weeks. Anyone out there got any suggestion as to its use or potential problems, not expecting any, let me know. All assistance appreciated.

Many of them is sold with a R8 or R9 house on them and it can be a good idea to buy it as a set because 1) it's almost the same price and 2) then you know it works and 3) you have a back-up body.
There can be issues with electronics between the R8 house and the DMR (in which case the R8 has to got to Leica for upgrade of the electronics), and then there is focusing where sometimes one has to send the kit to Leica to get the focusing completely perfect. As an example: I bought my DMR with an R9 that was paired with it. The R9 also had a special focusing screen (forgot the name). When the lightmeter in the R9 failed I attached the DMR to my R8 backup body and found the focusing on that was actually a bit more precise. But all in all it's a very easy kit to work with. Very simple and you will find the files you get are just out of this world. The main learning curve will be working with the DNG (RAW) files. I found the Hasselblad's free software FlexColor to produce the best files. You can get that by visiting Hasselblad.de and register yourself, then download. When using it, you use the Auto button and you mostly get the right picture. Adjust the red a bit down, perhaps. But FlexColor is not a workflow program. It just has a nice conversion. So for workflow, working many files, use Aperture or Lightroom. I personally find the Lightroom produce a tad nicer files than Aperture. But read this article by forum member John Thawley and you will spare yourself hours of work back and forth on the RAW conversion workflow: Motorsports Photographer ~ John Thawley :: Photography of American Le Mans, Grand Am, SPEED World Challenge - Journal - Wrapping Your Head Around*Workflow

It's a very good price. In paris was one for sale but the DMR itself was 3000 euro. The body was 1000.
