EXIF editor for Macintosh

I was looking today for an Editor for some EXIF data on some images I had taken. I found a neat, very simple piece of freeware that does it nicely. It is called Reveal 1.2 and is available here Album Shaper It does work on Leopard unlike some other programs we could name, although Leica UK says Solms are working on an update for Leica Digital Capture.

I suppose it depends on what you want to edit. I use Exif Renamer (donationware) to get rid of the camera's file name and substitute the date/time - have a look. It can be auto loaded via Image Capture which I find very handy!

Capture 1-4 will do this automatically when you import if you want it to. What I wanted to do for a series of test photographs was to put the actual f stop and the focus distance. What it does not allow you do which I would also have liked was to put the actual name of the lens. I do not understand why the Firmware does not do this anyway as the M8 will know it from the 6 bit code (or anyway your designated lens if you are using a hand coded lens). I will look at Exif Renamer.

I use an M8 with several uncoded lenses, both Leica and non-Leica. I want to add in the lens details in the blanks in the EXIF data, preferably at the DNG stage. Is this possible? And if so, how?

Ahah - I had only tried JPEG's. I hope it will do TIFF's as well. I would not want to change the EXIF on any of my DNG's as they should be unchangeable.

The application works fine here but an excellent bonus would be to be able to record the lens name as you say.

Yes, the edit button is greyed out with TIFF files.

You might try ExifTool:

 

$ exiftool -FocalLength=75 eagle.dng 
Warning: [minor] Possibly incorrect maker notes offsets (fix by 2314?) - eagle.dng
   1 image files updated

Terminal window is the red button marked "DESTRUCT" for your Mac. Seriously it has its uses, like I was using Traceroute and Ping last week to analyse a slow running broadband connection via Airport but you can do horrible things if you are not very careful.

Just take the disk Image:

OS X Package

 

Download the ExifTool OS X Package from the ExifTool home page.

(The file you download will have a name like "ExifTool-#.##.dmg".)

Install as a normal OS X package.

(Open the disk image, double-click on the install package, and follow the instructions.)

You can now run exiftool by typing "exiftool" in a Terminal window.
