Recommendated services to create a website, host and sell images?

I use Photoshelter, but the two most popular sites are SmugMug and Zenfolio. There are others, which people will identify. In evaluating these if you plan to sell, get samples from the fulfillment services. Also look at whether you can create a portfolio on your iPad or other mobile device. I used to use Zenfolio, but I switched to Photoshelter because I like their layouts better, yet I miss the ease with which you could create a Portfolio on your iPad using Zenfolio. You can do it with Photoshelter, but you need to buy an app. The other thing I don't like about Photoshelter is that they don't display EXIF camera data. Zenfolio did.

 

Finally, take time on the front end to examine features. Switching is costly in terms of time.

Whatever you do, don't focus too much on the monthly or annual fee--the sites are largely equivalent in terms of fees. To the extent you do focus on price, recognize that each site makes it money on fulfillment, so look at your share carefully.

I would like to second the recommendation that you look at Zenfolio. I have used it for several years and find it simple and easy to use and customize.

I like and have used Zenfolio for years. I especially like mobile app interface (as noted by Sanyasi above), the integration you can get with LR and it's good interface with the customers and the many prints/products they can access. They will also store raw files and PDFs for you. However, I would not offer truly high end prints through Zenfolio (or any of the other big multi-service sites) as I have been disappointed some... But I ask my clients/users to contact me if they want a very high quality archival print and I will either make the print myself or have one custom made.
