I was unaware of the G7's RAW compatibility at the time I bought the D-Lux 3. I love my Leica stuff, but I wish had the G9 - I think. It seems more like a camera. The D-Lux 3 is quite good, but it really is not intuitive, and I miss having a viewfinder and some manual controls.
Oh well, it's hardly my primary camera.

If memory serves me, and it may not, the G2 - G6 had RAW. I had understood that it was removed from the G7 and restored with the G9. I have a press loan request pending for the latter.
I douby anyone will be throwing the D-Lux 3 or the GX-100 in the garbage. Cheers, Sean |

G9 is only a five hundred dollar camera, whats that, half the cost of the DLux3? and you can get underwater case and other bits for the thing. Demographics I guess.
Hm...I see a few DLux creeping into ePray, but store prices are still up at eleven, twelve hundred bucks here in Aus. Last edited by rob_x2004; 05.10.2007 at 02:10. |

I saw quality problems on some picture I took with D-Lux 3 - caused by Noise and Noisereduction (loss of details and sharpness) even at ISO 100 and even on outdoor pictures, without pixel-peeping - only displaying a foto sized for my screen. I did not observed such problems (until now) with G9 pictures at all. Ok - I have to proof this more systematic - but I only wrote about my impression after one week --- And ok - nobody will through d-lux or gx100 to garbage - just dramatized ;-)) Actually I will not sell my D-Lux 3 - it gets me other benefits :-)) cheers |

I enlarge the canvas 10% and then in lens correction filter use a +4,00 in barrel distortion. It works for me. Salva

I purchased a Dlux3 for a trip, because I did not want to lug around M8 with 3 lenses. What a mistake. The shutter failed after 10 pixs and it took me over a week to repairt it in Europe. Now I find they have had quite a few shutter and sensor problems. Not once have I had problems with over 5 other Canon pocketables.
I also miss the viewfinder. The only drawback to the Canon is the size. I need one to stuff in my pocket or shirt pocket. |

Finally I've bought a voigtlander viewfinder for my G9, I select the 35mm viewfinder, in my first two days my first impressions are:
- Is big and very bright, better than my d200 viewfinder. - Fits very good with the G9, seems built as a G9 accesory. - The point of view is longer than the G9 base focal lenght, it seems that the G9 started at 32-33mm. I use the memories (C1 and C2) to save the right focal lenght. If you want to see more pictures and my coments (in spanish): Micropixel... .../11/visor-externo-para-canon-g9.html Salva PS: In my blog there are more G9 pictures, see below each photograph.

Salvatore,
I have the Dlux3, the G9 and the ricoh GX100. I have done some tests and some pics are in the link below. In order of preference I would consider, Leica, Canon and Ricoh (this one has as a plus the nice 24mm wide angle). The picture with Ricoh is in the test box. Mitch,
Leica has definitely a better lens and sharpness. In addition also the white balance is quite accurate. Canon is lacking a better wide angle (leica 28mm and Ricoh 24mm). The sharpness is not as good as the leica. Ricoh is missing some more zoom and he noise is more evident than in the leica nd the canon. At 100 iso is ok. Above you the noise starts to be evident. Overall they are all nice cameras. The wide angle makes a lot the difference. Giampiero |

Thanks, Giampoero, Interesting. I like the GX100 better than the D-Lux-3 because of the "stepped zoom", While the lens of the D-Lux-3 seems a bit sharper than that of the GX100, I find that the difference can be equalize by judicious sharpening of RAW files. Also, I prefer the wider 24mm of the GX100 and an not interested in telephoto over 72mm. I don't have any experience with the G9.

Sdai, as I shoot RAW I haven't really compared JPGs from the two cameras, but you might want to have a look at the following threadL
GX100 vs GR-D: initial conclusion [Page 1]: Ricoh Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review ...and you might want to have a look at Sean Reid.s site, which has detailed reviews of both cameras. —Mitch/Paris Flickr: Photos from Mitch Alland |
