Default My Digilux 2 came home from NJ today

Sent in on May 14 for sensor and UPS delivered it today (Sep 10). Looks just like it did when I sent it in (maybe the rubber gripping part is new). It appears they did a fine job. It sure is a nice camera too.
Now off to shoot,
JL

Hi Jon,
Glad you got your D2 back. Mine came back from Solms a couple of weeks back. They seem to have given mine a refurb though. It looks clean and like new. The main thing however is that it is working again.

Sent my D2 back to Milton Keynes just under 8-weeks ago. Have received excellent customer service from Leica UK throughout my wait, with update emails and occasional calls letting me know about progress. City Link should deliver it today. Can't wait to get out and use it again.

I'm glad to hear this. The detent on the focus ring between AF and AF-Macro is not working on mine and I have been thinking of sending it it. How long is the turn around?

Had a mess around last night, seems they did a pretty good job checking it over - seems to be working better than ever. I'll post some shots after the weekend.

Regards your focus ring, I can't believe it would take any longer than 3-weeks to turn around.

Email from MK says mine is also on the way back to me via Wey Cameras. When I sent it away in mid-July, it was like losing an old friend. My supersmart Nikon is equal if not better at the tasks given to it, but I do crave my D2 back in my hands again. Sad innit?

Can any of you guys tell me whether leica have completely sovled the sensor problem.

Mine has just gone in for repair. I asked this question, Milton keynes told me that they fit a new sensor and that the old ones were from a faulty batch.

Any thoughts?

Andy

Mine has been returned from Solms via Milton Keynes, and seems to work O.K.. Since the camera seems to have had a refurb I assume a new type on sensor has been fitted. With the number of cameras returned world wide, the original sensor batch must have been well and truly used up.

Cool Re: My Digilux 2 came home from NJ today

The real fear is....... that the initial D2 cameras that went in for sensor exchanges could have had sensors that were stored (from the faulty batch) for the warranty and maintenance repairs.

Most manufacturing companies, will set aside maintenance parts from manufacturing parts. Leica has had an excellent history of being able to repair old cameras.

If you recall the original D2 discussions. There was a short manufacturing cycle in 2004 of D2's and LC1's, from which the manufacturers would have assigned a quantity of "spares"....

Only Leica/Panasonic...know......and time will tell.

Could be problem I agree, but logically (and it's what I would have done were I Leica) Leica should have checked repair stock against the batch serial nos. and not used sensors that matched up.

I sent mine to Solms on June 9th through my dealer. I got back on August 24th. I had to send it back to Solms on August 28th.

When it came back from Solms (after replacing the sensor), I realized it was a problem with the reparation. The lens didn’t focus correctly. Wide opened, the distance shown on the lens didn’t match with the real distance. For instance, at 28mm, a subject placed at 3m, you could read on the lens 0.6m. At 35mm, the same object, you could read on the lens 1m. Only the real distance fits to the distance shown in the lens at 90mm.

Today still in Solms.

Cheers

Back from Solms, looking like new, feeling like new, maybe it was quicker and cheaper to send a new one?

Anyhow, I had forgotten what a charmer this camera is, not megpixels, not antishake, only one lens but it feels soooo goood, even though it can't compete with my latest Nikon.

Well done Leica, and Wey Cameras.

I hope the turnaround times are getting shorter. Mine was sent to MK one month ago and it has left a big gap in my coverage of certain jobs. No update but expect to wait at least another month. Maybe I will get a surprise!

When mine originally went back in June, I had a letter from Solms saying that they were awaiting a fresh batch of sensors and that there would be a delay until end of July.
I got mine back end of August looking like new and working perfectly. It sounds as if they are fitting new sensors rather than older fault prone types.

I am living on Canada now and have just experienced my first sensor failure symptoms during my trip to Crete. As others have noticed as well, the image just looks messed-up and stays that way for some time until it goes back to normal. I was wondering if there are any other options for me other than sending it to NJ. Also, how much does it cost in total to get the sensor replaced?

Hi Pappy I also reside in Canada. I sent my camera to NJ on Aug. 21 and it arrived on Aug 28. Today I received a letter from Leica stating it would take 4 to 5 weeks to replace the CCD. The repair cost was estimated at .00. I was very happy to hear that. They sure stand behind their products. I think your best choice is to send it to NJ as well.

Cheers

Jerbear don't be too over joyed. I sent mine on May 29 and got the same letter. I called on Tuesday of this week and they told me there is no status on my D2 but the senors are in and that I should call back in a week. Maybe they'll have some information for me then. Also they thanked me for being very patient. John

John bears out what I said earlier, I think that Leica are using a new batch of sensors.
I also agree with Laurence, it is nice to have my D2 back. Although it hasn't got the pixel count of my new E410, it certainly has got something special in the picture Dept that makes up for it. It is also a joy to use. Having had the repair I rather fancy my new toy ( E410) will take a back seat.
